The Killers: The Killers will perform at Viejas Arena at 8 p.m. The Killers are an American alternative rock band from Las Vegas. The band consists of Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards), Dave Keuning (guitar, vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass guitar, vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (percussion, drums). Part of the post-punk revival movement, The Killers draw their influences from 1980s musical styles. Their third studio album, Day & Age, produced by Stuart Price, was released in 2008 and included the popular single “Human.” Viejas Arena is located at 5500 Canyon Crest Drive on the campus of San Diego State University in College West. DJs Heather and Colette: DJ Heather and DJ Colette will spin their brand of house music at Spin at 9:30 p.m. DJ Heather is a house DJ from Chicago and one of the city’s main DJ exports. She mixes everything from blues, jazz to folk and rock music. DJ Colette, also from the Windy City, spins house. Her album Hypnotized was the most downloaded house-dance album on iTunes in June 2005. Sammy: The premiere of Sammy at the Old Globe Theatre starts at 8 p.m. Sammy, based on the life of Sammy Davis Jr., takes the audience on a journey from his days as a child working in vaudeville to his time with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra as a member of the Rat Pack. Sammy is written by two-time Academy Award and Grammy Award-winner Leslie Bricusse and features sixteen of Broadway’s best singers and dancers. The musical features the unmistakable classics that helped to make Davis an icon – from hits like “The Candy Man,” “Mr. Bojangles” and “What Kind of Fool Am I” to new songs written specifically for the musical. Sammy will be performed again on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The musical runs till Nov. 8. The Old Globe Theatre is located at 1363 Old Globe Way in Balboa Park. Connie Cannon exhibition: Korean artist Connie Cannon will exhibit her eco-conscious art at The San Diego Art Department from 6-10 p.m. Including everyday thrown away items that are turned into beautiful pieces of art, Connie’s work expresses her personality through use of form, color and spontaneity. Using mixed media, Cannon creates abstract works using warm and vibrant colors and expresses her love for texture. Cannon was born in Seoul, Korea and moved to United States when she was 11 and is most influenced by the art genre of abstract expressionism. The exhibit runs till Oct. 11. Get naked!: Naked San Diego is hosting a naked pool party in the afternoon and San Diego Naked Yoga is offering a nude yoga workshop at Studio 503 at 6 p.m.
Naked San Diego is a social club for 18 and above, height and weight proportionate, gay, straight, bi, HIV-positive or negative, single or coupled men. Big Family BBQ: Family Matters hosts Big Family BBQ at the Old Trolley Barn Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event includes music, karaoke, face painting, balloon art, unlimited play time on jumps and slides, family wheel barrow races, potato sack races, three-legged races, prizes, social time and, of course, a barbecue. Everyone is invited. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, sunscreen, and an umbrella or canopy. Cost is $10 for lunch and beverages and free for children under five.
