Townspeople 25th anniversary: Townspeople will celebrate its 25th anniversary at The Prado, in its ballroom, in Balboa Park at 6 p.m. Townspeople provides housing resources and affordable housing to low-income people living with HIV/AIDS in San Diego. The nonprofit will recognize several HIV/AIDS leaders and activists in the community including Terry Cunningham, Ruth Hendricks and Ramon Sandoval. Guests will enjoy a three course meal with a choice of one of three delectable entrees including Pan Roasted Sea Bass, Vegetarian Lasagna or Lemon Grass Chicken Breast. ‘The Truth About Jane’: The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Women’s Resource Center will screen The Truth About Jane at 7 p.m. In The Truth About Jane, a teenager named Jane, going through the typical traumas of adolescence, confronts being attracted to women. Sing Out for Single Payer: The First Unitarian Universalist Church hosts Sing Out for Single Payer at 7:30 p.m. As the debate on how to resolve the nation’s health care crisis continues one singular answer has been widely ignored in the public debate despite its popular appeal: a progressively financed, comprehensive, universal health care system – otherwise known as single-payer. The Sing Out for Single Payer presents musicians Dave Crossland, Jason Luckett, Eric Schwartz, Joyce Woodson and Tiamo De Vettori with readings from Ladies for Single Payer. Donation is requested. Adams Avenue Street Fair: Adams Avenue Business Association hosts the Adams Avenue Street Fair starting from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event covers eight blocks of Adams Avenue, is attended by over 100,000 people each year and offers more than 70 live music performances on six stages, three beer gardens, more than 300 arts and crafts, food vendors and giant carnival rides. Trolly Dances: Jean Issacs San Diego Theater and the Metropolitan Transit System hosts Trolly Dances at San Diego Trolley Blue Line stops from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. A cast of 50 performers will dance world premiere site-specific choreography by Swiss choreographer Elfi Shaeffer Shafroth among others. Dances recur on Sunday, Sept. 27 at the same time. The first dance begins at E Street at the Bayfront Trolley Station in Chula Vista and will travel to the US/Mexico border in San Ysidro. ‘Dear Harvey’: The San Diego State University’s Experimental Theatre hosts Dear Harvey at 8 p.m. Written by Patricia Loughrey, with additional writing and musical composition by Thomas Hodges, Dear Harvey is a special reading series to celebrate the life of Harvey Milk, the late champion of GLBT rights. Elephant Odyssey: San Diego Zoo’s new exhibit Elephant Odyssey opens at 9 a.m. The 7-acre habitat will feature relatives of animal species that dotted the Southern California landscape more than 10,000 years ago such as elephants, lions and wild horses. Many of the animals of Elephant Odyssey are endangered or threatened with extinction. The Zoological Society of San Diego, which operates San Diego Zoo, supports the sustainability of its species by working to reintroduce them into their native habitats. George and Martha know just how to push each other’s buttons, with George having a special advantage: he need only mention the couple’s son to send Martha into the roof. This evening, the couple’s guests are Nick, a junior professor, and Honey, Nick’s child-like wife.
