And the winner is….

So this morning I, like many awoke to the shocking, and some say (including the White House) surprising news of President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Wow! FOR WHAT!?! I and many ask this because I sure have seen NOTHING to indicate his deserving of such an honor! He certainly has done little for peace, on a global scale. He has dilly dallied on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Where is that pull out of Iraq that he promised? According to my sources (friends who are going), we still have troops going over to rotate out those who are there. That certainly does little for my confidence in a pull out of what many construe as an illegal war in the first place.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan is turning into Vietnam II. The similarities are shocking in behavior by foolish, if not ignorant civilians who know nothing about military deployment and proper follow through. Either total commitment or total withdrawal! We can no longer be half in half out that is how soldiers get killed. We half assed it in Vietnam, and look how that war ended-running out of Saigon with our tails between our legs and making our great Marine Corps look foolish. Thank you Kennedy, Johnson and of course Nixon, you bumbling fools!
Then there is Africa, a disaster if I have ever seen one. Children are still being exploited by the terrorist group, the Lord’s Army, an ironic name if I have ever seen one. Civil strife continues to be inflicted on the populace of the continent, based on idiotic Religious beliefs and ethnic tensions-all in part to the European imperialist goals, then making a mess of the situation by walking away leaving false nation states in their wake. These nations of course were created by Europe’s Colonial Powers with little if any respect for traditional tribal boundaries. Yes, yet another mess Europe left us with after World War II.
Relations with Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, and North Korea are at an all time low. The DPRK (North Korea) is going ahead with military development while their people starve. Iran is moving forward with nuclear development while they face an economic crisis. Venezuela is constantly goading us, while signing military and oil agreements with the Russians, who are constantly trying to undermine us on every level. Israel and Palestinians continue to fight and the situation is getting worse, especially now when the Israeli Foreign Minister effectively said there won’t be peace for a long time to come. Lebanon is about to teeter back into a civil war, while Pakistan, a nuclear power, has all but collapsed, and is in the midst of fighting an “insurgency” (nice way of saying Civil War).
On the home front, the President has continued his do nothing policies. Unemployment jumped last Friday, instead of going down. Banks are still failing (97 this year alone). Healthcare reform has all but come to a dead standstill-thank you Republicans and the wimpy Democrats who refuse to push back. And let’s get on him about GLBTQ issues. Many of my brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces can still not be who they really are, because “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is still in place. Then of course there is everyone’s favorite form of legislative bigotry, The Defense of Marriage Act which, you have it, is still in place. And these are just the tip of the iceberg!
Other than giving billions to banks and that joke of an Auto industry, we have elected ourselves a guy who likes to get up and talk, and talk, and talk. He talks the game, but never seems to play it. He does not get on his Democratic leadership in Congress to pass legislation that is needed, thus stagnate behavior in Congress continues. The wars continue. Bigotry continues towards the GLBTQ community. Banks continue to fail. States continue to struggle. International opinion has shifted little, except maybe in Europe, and they change with the winds. International tensions continue, and with little resolve being seen. So really, where is that change that the Obama camp promised us? Why do I still feel like President George W. Bush is still haunting us like that bad hangover. We seemed to have just replaced one political “yo-yo” with another. Proof that there is little difference between the political parties and that change was an imaginary concept. Maybe, just maybe, the change will come after President Obama leaves office and Americans see that the two party system is a complete failure. The change will come when Americans begin to fight vigorously for real change, not in whose in the office but what is on the ballot and who is on the ballot, by allowing for strong third parties to develop and be given a chance. Because what we have, and who we have is just no longer working properly. We are no longer “the government of the people, by the people” but a government for special interests, by special interests. And there you have it, your winner-special interests!
