“I believe the picket was a huge success!!!”
Dear Mike et al,
As one of the co-coordinators of the Counter-Protest of the hate mongers Westboro Baptist Church, I believe the picket was a huge success!!!
Yes, there were only 6 WBC members, 3 adults and 3 children, including Shirley - Fred Phelp’s daughter. The police reported there was over 500 of us. Those of us who organized this event had no budget and spent little if any of our own money, the cost of making a few signs, posters and batteries for our bull horns.
Our mission was to declare San Diego High School a ‘Hate - Free Zone’. We created an educational tolerance experience for students, drew the media attention away from the WBC and showed our LGBTQ leaders of tomorrow, we DO NOT have to put up with the abuse, bigotry and violence of hate mongers. San Diego LGBTQ and our allies created an event where students experienced first hand peaceful, positive, political protest.
We chanted, sang, laughed, hugged and celebrated our diverse LGBTQ Community together. Members of the UUC - Unitarian Universalist Church and MCC - Metropolitian Community Church and other faith community members who joined and had a silent love prayer vigil across the street from the WBC.
We showed San Diego and the world that the LGBTQ community is one of love and peace, we will not tolerate expressions of hate and bigotry!
Take Care & Blessed Be Always!!!
Love and Energy,
Wendy Sue

“Nicole is an embarassment to San Diego and The Center.”
Nicole thinks she is funny when she does her act for Halloween, but the reality is she is an embarassment to San Diego and The Center. Hillcrest should be VERY concerned about Nicole’s act after last year. People need to reread the letters to the editor after Halloween last year. People were very upset. I know many people that will not go to this event ever again because of Nicole. The reality is Nicole is a lightning rod. Why would Hillcrest or the Center attach themselves to such a character. West Hollywood and San Francisco do not charge for their Halloween events and they are way bigger and have bigger emcees. West Hollywood charges the same amount for their pride as San Diego’s and they produced names like Fantasia, Deborah Cox, several acts from American Idol, while our pride had no headliners and during a rough economy raised entrance fees 25% and hired more full time employees. Our pride was empty and was more of the same stuff in the booths and our clubs were empty. People have had enough of Nicole and is this the image we want for Hillcrest, San Diego, and is this the best for our future? You should take a look and remember the disaster our pride was and make changes fast. We need a fresh new look, new blood, to create a new future.
