‘Bent’: The ion Theatre Company and the Diversionary Theater will perform Bent at the Diversionary Theater at 8 p.m. This co-production with the Diversionary Theater is the 30th anniversary of the seminal play by Martin Sherman. Bent is about a man named Max, who is gay and is sent to Dachau concentration camp under the Nazi regime. He tries to deny he is gay and gets a yellow label (the one for Jews) instead of pink (the one for gays). In the camp, Max falls in love with his fellow prisoner Horst, who wears his pink label with pride. The play will be performed till Nov. 22. David Sedaris: Gay American humorist David Sedaris will perform at the Balboa Theatre at 8 p.m. Much of Sedaris’s humor is autobiographical and self-deprecating and often concerns his family life, his middle class upbringing in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina, Greek heritage, various jobs, education, drug use, homosexuality and his life in France with his boyfriend Hugh Hamrick. His New York Times best sellers include Naked (1997), Holidays on Ice (1997), Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000), Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004), and When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008). The Dirty Projectors: Experimental/indie rock band The Dirty Projectors will perform at The Birch North Park Theatre at 8 p.m. The Dirty Projectors have been likened to such bands/artists as The Microphones, Devendra Banhart and Deerhoof and are led by Dave Longstreth. The band currently consists of Longstreth alongside Amber Coffman (vocals, guitar), Angel Deradoorian (vocals, keyboard, samples, guitar, bass), Brian Mcomber (drums), Nat Baldwin (bass) and Haley Dekle (vocals). Following the success of their 2009 album release, Bitte Orca, which means “Please Whale” in German, the band released a new EP entitled, Temecula Sunrise last Sept. The Renaissance Faire: The Renaissance Faire at Felicita Park will start at 10 a.m. Actors dressed in 14th through 16th century England period costumes, from peasants to royalty, fairies to pirates, armored knights to jugglers will interact with the public. Scheduled events include the queen’s procession, a battle re-enactment, period games and music. Visitors will dine on a variety of foods and partake of tasty ales and fine wines as they spend a leisurely day amongst the oak shrouded park. Art of Andean Retablos: The Art of Andean Retablos is on display at the Museum of Man from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Retablos, exquisite art pieces, tell the stories, histories, and traditions of the Highland people of South America. The retablo art of Peru moves beyond the religious scenes originally depicted by the Spanish and reflect the lives of the indigenous people of Peru. The intent of the exhibition is to showcase the artwork of the retablo and to share information about the people who make them: how the events and traditions around them have influenced their lives. Requiem: The San Diego Master Chorale will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem at Copley Symphony Hall at 8 p.m. The Requiem Mass in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was composed in Vienna in 1791, during the last year of the composer’s life. Race for a cure: The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure will host its annual 5 k run/walk from Balboa Park at 8 a.m. Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Up to 75 percent of the funds raised remain in San Diego to provide breast health research, diagnostics, screening, treatment, services and education for uninsured or underinsured women. Talking about TINA: Talking about TINA at Jewish Family Services of San Diego will start at 12 p.m. Talking about TINA is a group for HIV-positive men who use crystal methamphetamine. The group offers a safe and nonjudgmental space to talk about ambivalence related to meth use, relationships, community norms, health issues, sex and past and present struggles with drug use. Guys, Games & Grub: The Center will host Guys, Games and Grub at 6:30 p.m. Guys, Games & Grub is a fun, free, social activity for gay, bisexual and transgender men.
