Gossip at W: Gossip (formerly The Gossip) will perform at the W San Diego at 8 p.m. Gossip are a three-piece American indie rock band fronted by singer Beth Ditto, guitarist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie. Their style has been described as a soul or gospel voice with a sort of funky punk soundtrack. The band has a liking for post-punk bands Birthday Party and Siouxsie And The Banshees but also for other genres like dance and hip-hop. Gossip was relatively unknown until they hit success with their third studio album, Standing in the Way of Control. A new studio album called Music For Men was released in June 2009. Sedaris’ timeless observations expose the all-too-human ills of corporate America and shoppers and holiday characters in distress. Tickets start at $20. Cool Yule: The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus hosts a one night performance of their holiday concert “Cool Yule” at the Balboa Theatre at 8 p.m. Accompanied by a 10-piece swing band, over 100 men’s voices will sing out in a concert featuring classics like “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm”, the Andrews Sisters’ “Jing-A-Ling”, Bing Crosby’s popular “Little Jack Frost” and many more. Ornament decorating: The Hillcrest Farmers Market will host a free holiday ornament decorating from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will provide the holiday ornaments and an array of holiday decorating supplies including glitter, stickers, ribbons and bows, everything guests will need to spice up their ornaments. San Diego Bay Parade of Lights: The Port of San Diego will host its annual Parade of Lights on Sunday, Dec. 13 from 5:30-9 p.m. The boats get decked out in their best holiday lights and strut their stuff from Shelter Island into the downtown waterfront for the annual event. For the best viewing from land, the north and south ends of the Embarcadero and the pathway along Coronado are usually less crowded. The park behind Seaport Village is another good spot to view the boats. And if you’re planning to watch from Harbor Island, arrive early and carpool if possible. The Grinch Who Stole Equality: Local marriage-equality organizations will host The Grinch Who Stole Equality, a winter caroling event in front of the Manchester Grand Hyatt on Monday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. Advocates of same-sex marriage will be signing Christmas carols that have been rewritten to be about equality, labor struggles and ‘Mr. Grinch’ Doug Manchester, who, according to local marriage-equality organizations and labor unions, has a record of discrimination against his hotel workers. Manchester also donated $125,000 to a political committee supporting Proposition 8, which bans same-sex couples from marrying in California. Organizers encourage participants to bring flags, signs and wear Dr. Seuss costumes to the caroling event. The Manchester Grand Hyatt is located at 1 Market Place in Downtown. Annual Wreath Auction: Martinis Above Fourth will host its 6th Annual Wreath Auction at 7 p.m. The event will feature an auction of donated Christmas wreaths, entertainment and a silent auction. The wreath auction event will benefit The Center’s Eddie Conlon Youth Fund, which provides assistance to disadvantaged youth that are often turned away by their families. The fund was developed by the Imperial Court de San Diego to honor Eddie Conlon. Since its inception, six years ago, Martinis Above Fourth’s Annual Wreath Auction has raised more than $85,000. ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’: The Old Globe Theatre will perform How the Grinch Stole Christmas at 7 p.m. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a wonderful, whimsical production that will once again jump right off the pages of the classic Dr. Seuss book and onto the Old Globe stage. Come take part in the fun as The Globe is transformed into snow-covered Whoville right down to the last can of Who-hash! The play runs till Sunday, Dec. 27.
