‘Broken Embraces’: Landmark Theatres’ Hillcrest Cinema will be screening Pedro Almodóvar’s new film Broken Embraces throughout the day. The story – a lavish melodrama tinged with humor – is told in flashback by Harry Caine (Lluís Homar, Bad Education), a blind screenwriter, who reveals that before an auto accident took his sight and the life of his love, he was the famous director Mateo Blanc. He had fallen in love with his leading lady, Lena (Penélope Cruz), who had made a startling metamorphosis from secretary and bereaved daughter to sought-after movie star when the ruthless industrialist Ernesto Martel (José Luis Gómez) became her lover and patron.

Beloved Daughters: The Museum of Photographic Arts will exhibit Beloved Daughters: Photographs by Fazal Sheikh from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beloved Daughters unites two projects by photographer and activist Fazal Sheikh. The exhibition focuses on women from two specific communities in India. The first project, Moksha (Heaven), portrays the northern Indian city of Vrindavan, where dispossessed widows go to devote themselves to Krishna and seek moksha: final release from the cycle of death and rebirth. Sheikh’s next project, Ladli (Beloved Daughter) portrays the lives of girls and young women in a society where, despite progressive laws, their human, civil, and economic rights are routinely suppressed. Holiday of Lights: The Del Mar Fairgrounds will host Holiday of Lights from 5:30-11 p.m. The Holiday of Lights at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is a spectacular drive-through light show and the largest holiday lighting display on the West Coast. This San Diego tradition contains more than 400 crowd-pleasing, family-oriented displays, accompanied by holiday tunes.
