Firestorm animal rescue fund
The worst firestorm in San Diego history resulted in the largest single animal rescue effort in our history as well. Many of those animals are still homeless, shocked and living in shelters around San Diego County. The North County Humane Society has a unique opportunity to raise money for those animals and others that need our care every day.
Local business leaders have teamed up with the North County Humane Society to organize a fundraiser where everyone wins. Five-dollar tickets are sold, a $100,000 Grand Prize will go to one lucky person, and the critters get food and shelter until they get homes. For more information, call Stacy Herro, Executive Director, North County Humane Society at (760) 420-0454 or Brian Yui, Fundraiser Chairman at (619) 887-0727

Pride logo contest deadline extended
San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride has extended the deadline for its annual logo contest to Jan. 5, 2004. The organization is accepting all types of artistic styles from the community that correspond to its anniversary theme: “30 Years of Pride: Strength in Numbers.”
Community members will review logo submissions after the deadline, and the winning artist(s) will receive $500. “The contest is open to all supporters of San Diego LGBT Pride. And the selected design will appear on our widely distributed souvenir program as well as commemorative merchandise,” said Pride Executive Director Suanne Pauley.
The anniversary theme was coined through input offered by community members at an October town hall meeting — and then finalized by Pride’s board of directors.
“We wanted a message that directly frames this milestone anniversary while reflecting the enormous attendance seen over the years at the parade and festival,” Pauley added.
Pride’s 2004 celebration is scheduled for July 30, 31 and Aug. 1.
Those wishing to participate in the logo contest should call the Pride office for submission details, at (619) 297-7683.
