Reel Tunes: The Gay Men’s Chorus San Diego presents “Reeltunes” tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla. Tickets are $25 and are available through the chorus, at Obelisk Bookstore, or by calling (619) 275-ARTS.
Walkabout South Park: South Park businesses will open from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. for the Winter Walkabout, a festive event with music, merriment, refreshments, shopping specials and carolers. There will a photo booth with Santa for the kids, and an area for them to make punched-tin ornaments from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Businesses from Juniper to Beech streets will participate. Art, music and purpose: Six Degrees and RK Production Group present musical guest Mary Dolan and art exhibition and sale of works by Jessica Tehan tonight from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. All proceeds from the artwork sales will be donated to Children’s Polinksy Hospital. Get into the Christmas mood: The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble Holiday Ornaments Concert, a festive concert of band and wind ensemble music, takes place tonight at 7:00 p.m. at The Center. Sensual Bliss: Gallery 504 North presents “Sensual Bliss,” a celebration of the female body and the bliss of life by artist Alan Taback. The opening reception tonight from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. kicks off the show, which runs through Jan. 10. Gallery 504 North is located at 3041 University Ave.
Ray at Night: The second Saturday of every month is Ray at Night on Ray St. in North Park, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight. Multiple galleries stay open late, featuring live music and snacks and booze in abundance. The free event is located on Ray St., between University Ave. and North Park Way.
Santa Claus comes to Kensington & Talmadge: Kensington and Talmadge come together to celebrate the holiday season with their first Tree Lighting Celebration, tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event is a fundraiser, giving visitors an opportunity to purchase ornaments, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting local charities, including the Autism Research Institute and the YMCA. The event includes a visit from Ole St. Nick, carolers and hot apple cider. The tree is located at the corner of Adams Ave. and Edgeware. Fashionista alert: The Cassius King Gallery is holding a trunk show today from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. “Thread” features independent designers peddling their wares, including jewelry, handbags, swimsuits, screened t-shirts, baby clothes and art. Nutty Ballet: City Ballet’s unique contribution to the holiday madness is The Nutty Nutcracker, a spoof that provides welcome comic relief. The Blind Boys of Alabama: Ever since the first version of the group formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1939, the Blind Boys of Alabama have performed spirited and energetic soul gospel music. With special guests Mavis Staple and John Medeski, the Blind Boys perform their foot-stomping, hand-clapping renditions of holiday favorites in Go Tell It to the Mountain. Portraiture in Paris: The fall exhibition at the Timkin Museum in Balboa Park is Portraiture of Paris around 1800: Cooper Penrose by Jacques-Louis David. The collection highlights portrait painting in Paris during the time of the Consulate (1799-1804).
