Outpatient aesthetic and cosmetic procedures are the fastest growing segment of medical procedures in the United States and represent a multi-billion dollar industry in California alone in the last several years. This growth is expected to continue unabated as the baby boomers age and the amount of disposable income continues to rise.
Kayou Medical Skin Care Clinic Inc. (DBA Kayou Clinic) opened in Aug. 2002. It was conceived from an idea that cosmetic/aesthetic skin care was needed by everyone, of all means, not just the ultra-rich in La Jolla or Del Mar.
The clinic was built from the ground up by Dawn Philp, Peter Philp and Susan Kincaid. It was formed as a California corporation and elected sub chapter S status in July 2002.
The three members coordinated the design and construction of the facility from an empty retail location in El Cajon. It took approximately 1.5 months to design the floorplan, apply for permits and then build out the clinic.
From this start, the clinic has grown to service more than 16,000 patients. Kayou Clinic attracts patients from all over the San Diego metropolitan area (San Ysidro to Oceanside).
The procedures performed are all medical grade outpatient aesthetic treatments performed by registered nurses, family nurse practitioners or medical doctors. The treatments include:
• Laser hair removal
• Laser vein removal
• Laser tattoo removal
• Laser skin rejuvenation
• Laser wrinkle reduction
• Microdermabrasion
• Dermal fillers
• Collagen
• Restylane
• Juvederm
• Botox
• Chemical peels
These procedures are all aesthetic and are not covered by the patient’s medical insurance. Because of this, it is an all cash business that, despite the very affordable pricing for these services, still limits them to folks with discretionary income.
Beyond the purely aesthetic aspects of these procedures they can also repair the damage done to the average person’s skin from the sun and San Diego’s outdoor lifestyle. The staff spend a significant amount of time with each patient educating them on the benefits of repairing the damage already done and then protecting the skin from further damage. Research has shown this type of repair/intervention can prevent future cases of skin cancer in patients receiving the treatments.
