Assemblymember John Pérez: Assemblymember John Pérez will speak at the Quarterly Community Coalition Breakfast at the San Diego LGBT Community Center at 7:30 a.m. Pérez recently became Assembly Speaker making him the first gay man to assume the speakership. Perez will speak about his plan for addressing California’s perennial budget crisis, how he made history and the importance of coalition-building. Felix Da Housecat: Felix Da Housecat will perform at Spin at 9:30 p.m. As a member of the second wave of the Chicago house scene, Felix entered the dance music in the 1990s. Last year, he released He Was King, an album that pays homage to artists like Prince and is heavily steeped in the electro house touchstones Felix is known for. Although the album is mostly known as electropop, many of the songs, such as “Elvi$” and “LA Ravers” are house bangers. Spin is located at 2028 Hancock St. in Mission Hills. Equality California benefit: FlawLes will host a benefit for Equality California (EQCA) at The W Hotel at 6 p.m. In an expression of a community tied together for equality, bound by their efforts in pursuit of equal rights, FlawLes presents this celebration to benefit EQCA – the state’s chief GLBT civil rights and advocacy organization. The themed party asks participants to put on a tie – a simple emblem of unity and the composite strength of a community whose ambitions are fixed together in solidarity. There will be a presentation by EQCA, guest speakers and live music performances.

Meyer will read from his new book Rounding Third at The Center at 11 a.m. Rounding Third tells the tale of two teens falling in love on a high school baseball team in a small Ohio town. Team Tennis: The San Diego Tennis Federation (SDTF) is hosting Team Tennis at San Diego High School and San Diego Community College at 9 a.m. Team Tennis is one of the SDTF’s most popular events. It provides players with the opportunity to meet fellow SDTF members and to bond with teammates. Team Tennis also exposes participants to the varied playing styles of their many opponents. SDTF is a gay and lesbian non-profit organization that celebrates another year of providing the San Diego area with one of the most competitive and social tennis clubs around. Denizens of a flop Hollywood Hills house ricochet between drugs and alcohol, dreams and drama, laughs and lunatic urges while perched at the rollercoaster rim of the early ’80s. ‘For My Father’: The San Diego Public Library’s Central Library will be screening For My Father at 6:30 p.m. Dror Zahavi’s 2008 thriller tells the story of a young Palestinian (Terek) forced on suicide mission in Tel Aviv to redeem his father’s honor, is given a second chance when the fuse on his explosive vest fails to detonate. Forced to spend the weekend in Tel Aviv awaiting its repair, Terek must live amongst the people he was planning to kill. To his surprise he connects with several Israelis on the outskirts of society, including the beautiful Keren, who has cut off contact with her Orthodox family and upbringing. With nothing to lose, Terek and Keren open up to one another, and an unlikely love blooms between two isolated and damaged individuals, raised to be enemies. Spending this time with Keren and his new friends, Terek discovers the spark of life returning to fill his soul, but when the weekend ends, Terek must make the decision of his life. Talking About TINA: Jewish Family Services of San Diego is hosting Talking About TINA from noon to 1:30 p.m. Talking about TINA is a group for HIV-positive men who use crystal methamphetamine. The group offers a safe and nonjudgmental space to talk about ambivalence related to meth use, relationships, community norms, health issues, sex and past and present struggles with drug use. An evening with Lily Tomlin: Actress/Comedian Lily Tomlin will perform at the Balboa Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The evening will include appearances of her timeless characters from Ernestine to Sister Boogie Woman and Mrs. Beasley to Edith Ann. This unforgettable night of fun and laughter also includes insights and wildly, witty observations about the human condition. A Q&A session will conclude the event.
