Temptation6: The Noel-Baza Fine Art/India Street Gallery will host Temptation6, an exhibit of Valentine-themed paintings at 6 p.m. The six artists range from abstract and landscape to realism and whimsy. Each artist is painting “Love Tokens,” affordable small format pieces that can be taken home as Valentine gifts the night of the opening reception. Whale and dolphin watching: Hornblower Cruises will host a whale and dolphin watching cruise at 9:30 a.m. The cruise is a three and a half hour whale watching adventure, narrated by an experienced captain. Boarding begins 15 minutes before the cruise leaves. Adult admission is $37 with discounts from children and seniors. Valentine’s Day at the Pops: The San Diego Symphony with conductor Matthew Garbutt and mezzo-soprano Crystal Jarrell will perform a Valentine’s Day concert at Copley Symphony Hall at 7:30 p.m. Concert includes romantic favorites including “My Funny Valentine”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “Till There Was You.” Tickets start at $20. ‘Off and Running’: The Jewish Film Festival will screen Nicole Opper’s Off and Running at AMC Theatres in La Jolla at 8 p.m. Off and Running is Opper’s first feature length film and tells the story of Avery Klein-Cloud, an adopted teenage girl of African-American decent raised by two Jewish lesbian mothers in Brooklyn, New York. The film depicts Avery’s transformation as she contacts her birth mother in Texas and makes her way as a Hebrew student trying to fit in at a mostly African-American high school. Pascoe’s Dude, You’re a Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School at the San Diego LGBT Community Center at 7 p.m. High school and the difficult terrain of sexuality and gender identity are brilliantly explored in this smart, incisive ethnography. Based on eighteen months of fieldwork in a racially diverse working-class high school, Dude, You’re a Fag sheds new light on masculinity both as a field of meaning and as a set of social practices. Medeski, Martin & Wood: Medeski, Martin & Wood will perform at the House of Blues at 7 p.m. Medeski Martin & Wood is an American jazz trio formed in 1991, consisting of John Medeski on keyboards and piano, Billy Martin on drums and percussion, and Chris Wood on double bass and bass guitar. The band draws on influences from a number of musical traditions, from funk to hip-hop and is known for an unconventional style sometimes described as “avant-groove”. Admission starts at $20.50.
