Physicians needed to assist torture survivors
If you are one of the many physicians who wants to give humanitarian or community service but just don’t have the time, then Doctors of the World-USA has a great opportunity for you. A free Human Rights Clinic training on June 11, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m., will teach physicians to conduct clinical interviews for immigrant survivors of torture and human rights abuse, evaluate the alleged trauma, and, when appropriate, prepare medical affidavits. By providing expertise and preparing documentation, physicians can help survivors of torture and human rights abuse enhance their capacity to present their cases to the immigration authority. Once trained and joined into the network of volunteers, Doctors of the World-USA will contact participating physicians to provide these services to screened clients. To register for the training or to obtain more information, call Marianne Reiner at (619) 278-2405.
