‘Until the Violence Stops’: The Diversionary Theatre will screen Until the Violence Stops at 7:30 p.m. Until the Violence Stops features playwright and activist Eve Ensler in a powerful film that documents how The Vagina Monologues grew into an international grassroots movement called V-Day to stop violence against women and girls. In 2002, eight hundred cities around the world participated in V-Day by staging benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues. Until the Violence Stops shows women from Harlem to Ukiah, California; from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to the Philippines and Kenya, uniting and courageously revealing their intimate and deeply painful experiences with abuse ranging from rape to female circumcision. More than just testimonies and performances, Until the Violence Stops is a film about empowerment, the importance of dialogue in the healing process and a celebration of women reclaiming their bodies and lives. Tickets are $10. The Diversionary Theatre is located at 4545 Park Blvd. in University Heights. For more information, call 619-220-0097 or visit www.diversionary.org.

Vagina Monologues: The Diversionary Theatre hosts a production of The Vagina Monologues starting at 8 p.m. in University Heights. The Vagina Monologues is made up of a varying number of monologues read by a varying number of women (initially, Eve Ensler performed every monologue herself, with subsequent performances featuring three actresses and more recent versions featuring a different actress for every role). Every monologue somehow relates to the vagina, be it through sex, love, rape, menstruation, mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the variety of names for the vagina or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality. Tickets are $20. The Diversionary Theatre is located at 4545 Park Boulevard in University Heights. For more information, visit www.diversionary.org or call 619-220-0097.

Lesbian ex-lovers: Esther Rothblum will discuss lesbian ex-lovers and long-term relationships at the San Diego LGBT Community Center at 7 p.m. Given the small size of the lesbian community, it is not surprising that there is pressure for women to remain friends with their ex-lovers. In Rothblum’s edited book, Lesbian Ex-Lovers: The Really Long-Term Relationships, the phenomenon is referred to as “FLEX” (friends and family connections among ex-lovers). Rothblum will discuss some issues from this book, including the blurred boundaries between friends and lovers. The lecture is part of the Women’s Lecture Series, a joint project of the Women’s Studies Department at San Diego State University and The Center. The Center is located at 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest. For more information, call 619-692-2077, ext. 212 or e-mail women@thecentersd.org.
