“When I first learned of the planned schedule change, I called MTS to register my complaint and asked my Councilmember, Todd Gloria, to but, of course, MTS did not listen.”
Dear Editor:
As of February 28, the Metropolitan Transit Service will no longer serve two of San Diego’s main hospitals on Sundays! The #3 bus passes within a block of Scripps Mercy Hospital and terminates at the UCSD Hospital. The #3 bus passes within a block of Scripps Mercy Hospital and terminates at the UCSD Hospital. The #3 bus will continue to run on Sundays, but only between the Euclid Trolley and downtown. Why can’t it continue from downtown to the hospitals?! This decision is absurd.
When I first learned of the planned schedule change, I called MTS to register my complaint and asked my Councilmember, Todd Gloria, to but, of course, MTS did not listen. I also asked several #3 bus drivers if many patients and visitors use the bus on Sundays and they confirmed they do. Having to go to the hospital is not something that is determined by a particular day of the week. Hospitals operate 24/7!
Another example of MTS’s insensitivity to its riders’ needs was when it recently re-routed the #10 bus so that it no longer stops at San Diego’s main U.S. Post Office on Midway Drive. As a result, San Diegans can no longer get directly to their main Post Office by bus either!

“There is one thing of which we are certain: The Weiss’s are warm, wonderful and caring people.”
Dear Editor:
We are deeply saddened by the legal difficulties our good friend Bourbon St/Lei Lounge owner Michael Weiss faces. It’s been our great privilege since the Weiss’s came to San Diego to call them friends. Indeed, they are like family.
We can’t be certain of the allegations leveled against Michael and the Weiss’ Palmer Social Club in Philadelphia, but we see by the many articles published recently that the tax-exempt status for the club precedes Michael’s management by nearly 30 years. We are hopeful that the evidence will exonerate Michael, but we’re not naive to the notion that the government can be so heavy-handed in these matters that a settlement may be less risky than a trial.
There is one thing of which we are certain: The Weiss’s are warm, wonderful and caring people. Whenever we have asked them for donations for a good cause, they can’t do enough. When help is needed they are always the first to volunteer. Our hearts and best thoughts are with them. We hope the communities to which they’ve been so generous over the years will do the same.
