San Diego Leather Pride events: San Diego Leather Pride weekend II features a series of events for leather men. The Eagle will host a Mr. San Diego Leather meet and greet at the Eagle at 9 p.m. Meet the leather men running for Mr. San Diego Leather and the judges that they need to impress. The event includes raffles and drink specials. Admission is free. Richs will host the Mr. San Diego Leather Contest on Saturday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets costs $20. See leather men run for the title. A master/slave and service auction will start in the front room at Richs at 11:30 p.m. On Sunday, Urban Mo’s will host the Victory Brunch at 10 a.m. Brunch is $20. Defense of Marriage Act Symposium: The California Western School of Law and the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University bring together 12 of the nation’s top legal scholars and experts for Defense of Marriage Act: A Symposium on Federalism and Interstate Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships on Friday, March 19 from 1-6:15 p.m. The symposium offers a variety of perspectives from legal scholars and experts from across the country and is free and open to the public. Cine Gay Showcase: TheSan Diego Latino Film Festival’s Cine Gay Showcase offers its last full day of events and films. UltraStar Mission Valley Cinema at Hazard Center in Mission Valley will screen Cine Gay Shorts at 3 p.m. and La Mission at 7 p.m. The US Grant Grill (326 Broadway in Downtown) will host Closing Night Gala from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The Cine Gay Showcase highlights the experiences of gay life in different corners of the world, underlining the universal experience as well as the unique expressions of the Latin GLBT community. Dying with dignity: The Hemlock Society of San Diego will host a forum on dying with dignity at the Joyce Beers Community Center at 1:30 p.m. The forum will include a screening of two films that touch on the issue of avoiding a prolonged death by refusing food and fluid. A discussion with Caring Advocates President Stan Terman will follow. Admission is free. Alcazar Garden, named because its design is patterned after the gardens of Alcazar Castle in Seville, Spain, lies adjacent to the Art Institute and Mingei Museum. It is known for its ornate fountains, exquisite turquoise blue, yellow, and green Moorish tiles and shady pergola. This formal garden, bordered by boxwood hedges, is planted with 7,000 annuals for a vibrant display of color throughout the year. Alcazar Garden is located at 1363 El Prado in Balboa Park. Group run and walk: Front Runners & Walkers San Diego is meeting for running and walking at the southeast corner of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street under the “big tree” in Balboa Park at 6 p.m. Front Runners & Walkers San Diego is a running and walking club for lesbians, gay men, their families and friends. The group provides a number of walking, running and fitness activities, as well as occasional social events. Runs take between three to six miles and walks take two to three miles. The Big Switch: Urban Mo’s and Baja Betty’s will host The Big Switch from 5-11 p.m. The two restaurants will be once again switching teams. Restaurant goers at both locations can look forward to seeing their favorite hosts, bartenders, servers and food runners relocate for their evening shifts. Twenty five percent of the revenue at each restaurant during the Big Switch will be donated to the San Diego LGBT Community Center. GSDBA mixer: The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) will host a mixer at the W Hotel at 6 p.m. Mix, mingle and network while basking in the glow of the downtown moonlight. NoH8 Campaign benefit concert: Brick By Brick will host a NoH8 Campaign benefit concert at 8 p.m. The event will feature performances by top 10 Billboard recording artist Billie Myers, My Elysian, Esjay of Stealing Love Jones and Joalby. The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest campaign created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop. 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.
