“Lately It was the best of times and worst of times in our Capital.”
Lately It was the best of times and worst of times in our Capital. The sad counterpoint to the enlightened support of marriage equality in Washngton D.C. that GLT has commented on was the barrage of racial and homophobic slurs shouted at House members by “T-baggers.” Such ignorant and offensive behavior is no surprise to people who have worked publicly for equality. The self-discreditng racism and homophobia inherent in this “movement” also contradicts any attempts to analogize the current “T-bag” protest to other movements for equality and peace. It also reinforces why those of us in the marriage equality movement need to reach out to and support people who are fighting racial discrimination. A chant we use frequently at marriage equality events sums it up: gay, straight, black, white, same struggle, same fight.

“There is no better person to bring progressive and smart representation to the 4th supervisors district than Stephen Whitburn.”
There is no better person to bring progressive and smart representation to the 4th supervisors district than Stephen Whitburn. I didn’t know him well enough during his City Council run, but in the last two years, he has demonstrated an independent voice in support of equal treatment for LGBT people that has earned my help in his campaign. GO Stephen!

“As much as Sorba is a creep, the best thing we can do is leave him to his own warped and misguided beliefs.”
As much as Sorba is a creep, the best thing we can do is leave him to his own warped and misguided beliefs. He and I went to the same university for a time, and even then Sorba loved pushing things and pissing people off. He would post flyers naming progressive professors are being on his “blacklist” as well as misrepresenting studies to support claims like kids with same-sex parents are more likely to be sexually abused or gay themselves. It’s also not the first time he’s pissed off his fellow Republicans...on campus, the College Republicans student organization voted to kick him out because he was just too much of a liability. Ignore Sorba...even though I know he makes it so hard to do so.
