‘2501 Migrants: A Journey’: University of San Diego’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice will screen 2501 Migrants: A Journey at 6 p.m. 2501 Migrants: A Journey tells the story of Alejandro Santiago, a middle-aged artist and family man from Oaxaca, Mexico. Relatively affluent and erudite, Alejandro returns home after a brief self-exile in France. But upon arrival to his native Teococuilco, he is struck by what he perceives as a virtual ghost town. Santiago experiences, first hand, the reality that Oaxaca has emerged as one of Mexico’s leading exporters of human labor to the United States. Inspired by this, Santiago decides to create a monumental installation art piece: 2,501 life-size sculptures, a homage to each individual migrant who left his village. Admission is free. The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice is located on the campus of University of San Diego at 5998 Alcalá Park in Linda Vista. For more information, call 619-260-4090 or visit http://alturl.com/sj7v.
