Haiti/Chile benefit art show: The Edgeware Gallery is hosting an opening reception for work by Haitian artist Jean Paul and Chilean artist Guillermo Bert at 5 p.m. The event will include Haitian and Chilean food and Haitian music. Sales of artwork from nearly a dozen local artists will benefit earthquake victims. The exhibition continues through April. The Edgeware Gallery is located at 4186 Adams Ave. in Kensington. ‘Food, Inc.’: The Sierra Club is screening Food, Inc. at its Kearny Mesa location at 6:30 p.m. Food, Inc. is an American documentary film directed by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Robert Kenner. The film examines corporate farming in the United States, concluding that the meat and vegetables produced by agribusiness have many hidden costs and are unhealthy and environmentally harmful. The documentary received heavy criticism by large American corporations engaged in industrial food production. Admission to the screening is free. ‘The House on Shadow Lane’: Local author Robert Heylmun will read from his novel, The House on Shadow Lane, at the San Diego LGBT Community Center at 11 a.m. The House on Shadow Lane is a love story about Hal and Simon, a gay couple who fall in love and entertain a variety of quirky and colorful visitors at their home on Shadow Lane. ‘Legally Blonde’: The San Diego Civic Theatre will perform Legally Blonde at 2 p.m. The hilarious film is now a smash hit musical. Underestimated blonde sorority star Elle Woods doesn’t take “no” for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone “serious”, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. The Black Eyed Peas: The Black Eyed Peas will perform at the San Diego Sports Arena at 7:30 p.m. The Black Eyed Peas is a Grammy Award winning hip-hop group that formed in Los Angeles, Cali. in 1995. The group is composed of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Will.l.Am and vocalists Apl.De.Ap, Taboo and Fergie. Since their third album Elephunk in 2003, the group’s hip-hop/dance-oriented style has sold an estimated 35 million albums worldwide and 41 million singles. They scored their first worldwide hit with “Where Is the Love?” in 2003, which topped over ten charts worldwide. Another single was the European hit “Shut Up”. Their next album Monkey Business was another worldwide hit, certified three-times platinum in the U.S., spawning two hit singles “My Humps” and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart”. History of Chicano Park: Martin D. Rosen, a Senior Environmental Planner at Caltrans in San Diego, will discuss the history of Chicano Park at Grace Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. Chicano Park is located in the Barrio Logan region of San Diego and has more than 40 magnificent murals, which have been created on bridge columns and abutments where Interstate 5 and State Route 75 meet in the heart of the community. The lecture is free and sponsored by the University Heights Historical Society and will take place in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
