National Comedy Theatre: The San Diego National Comedy Theatre will host its weekly 100-minute comedy show at 9:45 p.m. The show is a high octane comedy show featuring Southern California’s best improv comedians performing a series of games and scenes all based on audience suggestions. The audience picks the games, helps call the fouls and ultimately decides which team is the evening’s winner. RAIN: Broadway San Diego will perform RAIN – A Tribute to the Beatles at the San Diego Civic Theatre at 2 and 8 p.m. RAIN is a live tribute concert to the Beatles with a fusion of historical footage and hilarious television commercials from the 1960s. RAIN features live Beatles music by a band that looks and sounds like the Beatles performing a repertoire of nearly 200 Beatlemaniac favorites, ranging from such beloved songs as “Yesterday” and “Hey Jude” to classic hits including “Revolution” and “Come Together.” Tickets start at $20. Sight & Sound: Walk the Walk presents the monthly Sight & Sound at Queen Bee’s at 8 p.m. This months Sight & Sound will feature MC Flow, Lauren DeRose, Caburlesque Kittens, Bliss Music Therapy and more. Alexander: Alexander will perform at Spin at 9:30 p.m. Alexander brings his extensive knowledge of house, tribal, hip-hop and Latin rhythm to the tables, forging a truly unique sound that has to be heard live to be fully appreciated. Incorporating new and classic tracks (often remixed) into his sets, Alexander seamlessly blends pulsing deep house grooves and expressive vocal anthems, infusing them with tribal drums for a richly textured sound. Dramatists Play Service first published All in the Timing in 1994 with a collection of six plays; the current collection contains fourteen. Kitties for Titties: The team Kitties for Titties will host a fundraiser for its participation in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk at Bourbon Street from 3-8 p.m. Kitties 4 Titties is seeking to raise a total of $4600. The fundraiser includes raffles with tons of prizes, a silent auction with various artwork, games, a DJ, barbecue and Jell-o shots. Susan G. Komen for the Cure organizes the annual walk and is the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested nearly $1.5 billion since inception in 1982. As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, Susan G. Festival of the Arts: North Park Main Street will host the North Park Festival of the Arts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The North Park Festival of the Arts is an all day extravaganza for the senses, with a whopping eight hours of unlimited entertainment including six stages of live music, spoken word, dance and poetry, over 100 vendor booths, an artists village with thousands of paintings, sculptures and crafts, an international food court and a kids art area. Men’s Discussion Group: The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Men’s Discussion Group starts at 7:15 p.m. The group provides a safe, social and educational space for new or isolated community members to begin to experience decreased isolation, an increased sense of belonging and an opportunity to share struggles and victories. Future films: Media arts students from High Tech High will present five-minute film shorts they created at the Museum of Photographic Arts at 6 p.m. Based on environmental science research, High Tech High media arts students were asked to use art and multimedia to predict the future of the planet. Their resulting work includes various film genres including animation and mockumentary. Admission is free. The Museum of Photographic Arts is located at 1649 El Prado in Balboa Park. Mission Nights: The Mission Hills Merchants, the Mission Hills Town Council, and the Mission Hills Improvement District is hosting the kickoff of Mission Nights on Wednesday, May 19, from 6-8 p.m. Participating business will have a variety of offerings, including food samples, coupons, special pricing, live music, and demonstrations. Walk the marketplace in this street fare type atmosphere and enjoy local specials as you mix and mingle. Caribou: Caribou will perform at the Casbah at 8 p.m. Caribou is the stage name for Canadian Dan Snaith. Snaith has been a leading figure in electronic music over the past decade. A mathematics scholar and an ingenious multi-instrumentalist/composer, he surprised critics and fans with 2007s Andorra, a brilliant, electro-tinged pop breakthrough with a timeless grace that made most year-end “Best of” lists and won Canada’s prestigious Polaris Music Prize. Caribou’s newest album, Swim, is a complex, multi-layered affair, ripe with fascinating rhythms, instrumentation and vocals. Admission is $14.
