Well, now I’m off to Kentucky for five days of events and meetings. By the way, I’ve lost 12 pounds and I am still on my diet! Please be sure to vote next Tuesday, June 8.
SDNN = Hypocrisy = Fraud?
Well, well, well … Only two weeks after the San Diego News Network (SDNN) and its media partner San Diego Gay Lesbian News (SDGLN)/ SDPIX launched an attack on Gay & Lesbian Times publisher Michael Portantino, SDNN closed its doors amid accusations of defrauding millions of dollars from investors. Now out-of-work SDNN editor Joseph Pena, who helped write the ugly article on his ex/boss, Portantino, including blasting him for sending money to his elderly mother (shame on you, Pena) is in for more surprises. I have solid information that a law suit will soon be pending against these two media outlets and officials at the media outlets, and it will be filed by a most prominent San Diego attorney whom I talked with a few days ago. He will be subpoenaing some high profile San Diegans who cast stones against their competition. Those who definitely live in glass houses will soon be revealed for all to see.
GLBT City Hall exhibit, July 13-21
Yes, you read it here first. There will be a GLBT community historic exhibit at City Hall during this year’s Pride month in July, sponsored by the Lambda Archives and the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast. The exhibit will be on display from July 13-21 on the first floor of City Hall. After seeing so many great exhibits from different communities at City Hall these past decades, I approached Councilmember Todd Gloria, and we are now working with a GLBT community committee to put on an exhibit you will all be proud of. More information to come as July nears.
Election this Tuesday, June 8
Don’t forget to vote this coming Tuesday, especially for Sheriff Bill Gore, Ron Roberts for supervisor, Gavin Newsom for lieutenant governor. For San Diego City Council, David Alvarez for Dist. 8, Howard Wayne for Dist. 6, Tony Young for Dist. 4, Kevin Faulconer for Dist. 2. And for those that live in Chula Vista, please vote for Humberto Peraza for Chula Vista City Council. And remember to write in Sandra L. Berry for Superior Court Judge over De Ann Salcido. Check out the full page GLBT Vote 2010 endorsements as well as the GLT.
Bishop Ssenyonjo honored
San Diego rolled out the red carpet for the recent visit of Bishop Christopher Ssenyonjo of Africa with numerous events. The bishop has become an international spokesperson for human rights in his nation for all people including the GLBT community. A wonderful event held at Park Manor Suites attracting many San Diego political and civil-rights leaders. A special thank you goes to Linda Perine, Rev. Albert Ogle, City Commissioner Stampp Corbin and the Human Rights Campaign.
Milk Honors
The Harvey Milk Foundation has announced the San Diego presentation of Milk Honors on Thursday, July 15. Mayor Jerry Sanders, Sen. Christine Kehoe, City Commissioner Robert Gleason and Lisa Sanders will be honored. Stuart Milk, who will kick-off our 2010 Pride week, will be a special guest. Senator Mark Leno and Assembly Speaker John Perez were the first Californians to receive the Milk Honors. Your all invited to this event, which is a fundraiser for the Milk Foundation. Stepping Stone celebrations this weekend
For more than three decades the good people at Stepping Stone have been saving and changing lives for those hooked on drugs and or alcohol. This weekend they will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their housing complex, which is one of the best in the nation. Heroine Cheryl Houk will also be recognized and honored for her leadership. On Saturday, June 5, there will be a great celebration under the stars at the Porto Vista Hotel. Congratulations to everyone at Stepping Stone. For more information, visit www.steppingstonesd.org or call 619-278-0777, ext. 104.
Rev. Troy Perry at MCC San Diego
One of the GLBT community’s most known leaders, pioneers and icons the Rev. Bishop Troy Perry will be at the Metropolitan Community Church this weekend for their 40th anniversary. Since the 1970s, our community has been able to rely on the MCC and its devoted pastors through Anita Bryant crusades, John Briggs campaigns and the AIDS crisis. MCC San Diego has for four decades been one of our community’s most solid foundations and we should all celebrate and appreciate their always being there for us. Happy 40th MCC!
Bacchus House every Wednesday night, fiestas!
That’s right one of the hottest Latino nights this side of the border is at Bacchus House every Wednesday with Musica Passion and it draws very hot Latinos. The action is all night till 2 a.m. and a great Latin Variety Show hosted by the beautiful and sexy Daisy Torres of Rage Magazine.
Quickie movie reviews
‘Sex and the City’: Super fabulous! The movie is better than the first one if that is possible. The gay wedding scene is outrageous and the designer clothes are out of this world. Take all your friends!
‘Prince of Persia’: Brokeback Mountain hot bottom, actor Jake Gyllenhaal is more built than ever. Too bad they couldn’t have built a better story line.
‘Shrek: The Final Chapter’: This final chapter is the best ever. Great fun for grown ups and kids. You’ll just love it.
‘Robin Hood’: His merry men could have been much better looking. If you’re a history buff, you’ll like this movie but if you aren’t, you’ll fall asleep in your popcorn.
