The Hillcrest community was burdened with a horrible loss early morning, June 3, 2010
Danny Bodenmiller, lifelong friend of many, passed away in his home from natural causes. Danny was at home with those he loved most, Matthew Ramon and their dog, Ajax, when tragedy struck. Matthew and he were housemates, platonic soul mates, and best friends.
Those who knew Danny are at a great loss, and those who did not know him are at an even greater loss. Danny was always the first to give a helping hand to anyone and everyone. He can be described as an incredible life force of energy, always upbeat and always smiling. The positivity Danny exuded was infectious to all; there was not a negative bone in his body.
Danny has been an integral part of the LGBT community with all the work that he has done to benefit those in need. Danny was a multi-faceted individual who provided services to many different nonprofit organizations. He was a driver for Mama’s Kitchen, delivering meals to those without basic human needs. He was the co-founder of Tantrums and Tiaras, an annual drag show to benefit Mama’s Kitchen, which was a huge success last year. Danny helped bring awareness to San Diego, from L.A., of the Aid for Aids foundation, as one of the most amazing performers the Best in Drag Show had ever seen on their stage. He had been selected as a performer for the Best in Drag Show this year and was already in rehearsals.
Danny was amazingly talented as a designer and as a performer. Living life to the fullest and always over the top, he was known to have the biggest hair and the highest heels. Danny was a very talented interior designer and his positive energy can be felt in any room where his gifted hand was at work.
Those who knew Danny will miss his smile, laughter, big heart, and the way that he lived his life. No one was a stranger to him; everyone was always greeted with a big hug and kiss on the cheek.
Brought to San Diego from Ohio, Danny is survived by his loving mother, step-dad, sister, and all of the “family” he had in the community. His life was robbed short at age 49; however, Danny is not the kind of person that would regret any moment of it. He is now at peace and is awaiting the arrival of his best “girlfriends,” ready to wrap his wings around us. Currently, there is no pending Celebration of Life, but the community will be updated with further information regarding Danny’s Memorial. Danny, we love you, we miss you terribly, and we will not let your wig and shoe collection lose their shape.
