Diana Ross: Diana Ross will perform at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay at 8 p.m. Ross is an American singer and actress. During the 1960s, she helped shape the Motown sound as lead singer of The Supremes, before leaving the group for a solo career in 1970. Since the beginning of her career with The Supremes and as a solo artist, Ross has sold more than 100 million records. She won awards at the American Music Awards, garnered twelve Grammy Award nominations and won a Tony Award for her one-woman show, An Evening with Diana Ross in 1977. In 1993, the Guinness Book of World Records declared Diana Ross the most successful female music artist in history with a total of 18 American number-one singles: 12 as lead singer of The Supremes and six as a soloist. Soldier to citizen: Army veteran Maurice Martin will talk about what it’s like to transition from warrior to working-class citizen at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego at 7:30 p.m. Martin, who currently lives in a homeless shelter, will also discuss his transformation into a community activist. The Art of Generosity: The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation (SDHDF) will host the Art of Generosity at Anthology at 6 p.m. The event is an annual benefit fundraiser for the SDHDF and will feature live music from Anthology’s finest American cuisine and three floors of cocktail lounges, outdoor patios and more. “Dance, dine and deduct” your way to a brighter GLBT future! Taste of Adams Avenue: The Adams Avenue Business Association will host the 10th annual Taste of Adams Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy samples of more than 20 of Adams Avenue’s finest eateries as chefs bring out their best dishes or house specialties. Trolleys are provided to help tasters span the 2.5 miles of Adams Avenue, ensuring everyone access to every participating restaurant. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 the day of the event. Mental Yoga: The Vajrarupini Buddhist Center will host Metal Yoga at 7 p.m. Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning “union.” There are two types: the yoga of physical actions and the yoga of mental actions. The main function of the yoga of physical actions is to keep our body healthy. The yoga of mental actions means training in spiritual paths and functions to make our mind peaceful and happy all the time. Mental Yoga will introduce the power and benefits of the mental form of yoga and show how to integrate mental training into daily life, so yoga can be practiced anywhere, at any time, to improve mental flexibility, health and strength. This class will be taught by Kadampa Buddhist monk, Gen Kelsang Atisha. The program is suitable for everyone and will include teachings and guided meditations. The class is $12. Twilight in the Park: Rock ’n’ Roll this summer with rock band “Stars on the Water” as music and dance returns to Balboa Park at 6:15 p.m. Twilight’s live music under the stars has been delighting visitors to the Park for 30 years, and programs range from military bands and Dixieland jazz to big band swing and Latin salsa. All the San Diego-based performance groups showcase their talents to the community free of charge. Shows take place on the stage of the majestic Spreckels Organ Pavilion. RuPaul book signing at Obelisk: World famous drag queen RuPaul will visit Obelisk Shoppe (aka Obelisk Bookstore) to sign copies of her new book – Workin’ It! RuPaul’s Guide to Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Style – at 7 p.m. RuPaul skyrocketed to international fame with the CD release “Supermodel of the World,” which she followed with roles in several feature films, “The RuPaul Show” on VH1, many high-profile endorsement deals, a best-selling autobiography and LOGO’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” The book signing is a line ticketed event. Donna Summer: Singer/songwriter and pop culture icon Donna Summer will perform at the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 7:30 p.m. Summer, who rocketed to international superstardom in the mid 1970s when her groundbreaking merger of R&B, soul, pop, funk, rock, disco and avant-garde electronica catapulted underground dance music to the pinnacles of sales and radio charts around the world, has been working hard on Crayons, her new collection of songs.
