‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’
Dear Editor:
As we all know, the gay and lesbian community in San Diego is in great danger from enemy militants, unlawful combatants, terrorists, and evil-doers who are “jealous of our freedom” and “hate our way of life.” In this “age of terror,” gay and lesbian troops must be allowed to openly “spread freedom and democracy” to poor people in second and third world nations who live above oil fields, near oil pipeline routes, or underUS backed puppet governments.
When Presidents, both white and black, lie the nation into undeclared wars and escalations gay and lesbian troops should be able to openly join in the carnage. When Apache helicopters and remote controlled drones “take out” Afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis, or anyone else our honest leaders in Washington tell us are out enemies, gay and lesbian military pilots should be able to openly pull the trigger. When US and non-US citizens are declared “enemy combatants” by the President and detained indefinitely without any “due process” right to contest their detention, gay and lesbian troops should be able to openly put them in chains, lock their cells and when necessary torture them.
“Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” is a threat to The Fatherland. Oops, I mean “The Homeland.” Until gay and lesbian Americans are able to openly serve in the military, the values and security we share as human citizens and non-human corporate citizens under the “USA Patriot Act” remain in peril.
Patriotically,
Jack Hogan
Homophobic ad copy
Dear Editor:
Allan Spackman who sells expensive ad space in single page “Take This To The Polls” ads for his current crop of phony new organizations has page 29 of this week’s GLT for his “GBLT Vote 2010”, has never been regarded as ethical and trustworthy in my memory. But this ad shows Spackman at his worst, promoting homophobic (Yes On 8) attorney Sandra L Perry for Superior Court Judge office #27 against an incumbent Family Court Judge (I happen to know and admire) De Ann Salcido. When these rabid religious conservatives even bring their judge replacement campaign to seemingly unintrusive paid advertising in GLT, its worth all our efforts to vote for the four challenged judges, #14, #21, De Ann’s #27 and #34.... even if we mormaly leave judgeships blank on our ballots! Shame on GLT’s Michael Portantino for accepting such homophobic ad copy, too! If he could get away with it legally, I wonder if Spackman would conduct a fund raising campaign for Hamas and or Hezbollah?
Jay Murley
Editor’s Note: The GLT was unable to substantiate Murley’s claim that Allen Spackman sold ad space on last week’s GLBT Vote 2010’s endorsements page before this week’s issue went to press.
