Two San Diego female football players chosen for Team USA in Sweden

Two players from San Diego’s women’s professional football team; the So Cal Scorpions are participating in the women’s world team coordinated by USA Football and the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL). Quarterback, Melissa Gallegos and Running Back, Desiree Weimann were two of 45 players selected across the nation to represent the United States.
The first-ever U.S. Women’s National Team in American football, assembled by USA Football and the IWFL, will play in Stockholm, Sweden, in the inaugural International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s World Championship. Both Weimann and Gallegos are veteran players of the Scorpions and have played since the team’s inaugural season in 2003. Weimann is a resident of Temecula and Gallegos a resident of Chula Vista.
