Vegan Blueberry Vodka Martinis
Most vodkas are made using animal parts during the filtering process. For a vegan vodka drink, your best bet is to use ABSOLUT brand vodka. Its products are vegan, thus they do not contain any animal products and no such products are used in the production process. They do not use any animal derivatives either directly in the product itself, or to filter the product.
The ingredients for ABSOLUT VODKA are grain (wheat), enzymes, yeast and water from their own well. As for the flavored versions, they only use natural ingredients from berries, fruits and spices.
Ingredients
1 liter vegan vodka
1 pint blueberries, rinsed and dried
1 cup raspberry flavored liqueur
1 lime, juiced
1 twist lime zest, garnish
Directions
To make the blueberry vodka: Pour out approximately 1/3 of the bottle of vodka into a holding container; set aside. Score each blueberry with a small nick and place into vodka bottle. With the vodka previously set aside, fill the vodka bottle until just below the neck. Add just enough raspberry liqueur to top off the bottle. Let sit in a dark place for 2 weeks.
To make martinis: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 2 parts blueberry vodka, 1 part raspberry liqueur, and a dash of lime juice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass. Garnish with twist of lime zest.
Vesper Martini
Every James Bond fan will recognize the lines in the recipe below as the first martini James Bond ordered in Casino Royale. The Kina Lillet Bond speaks of can be found today labeled as White or Blanc Lillet. It’s a brand of dry vermouth made in France since the late 1800’s that is often referred to as “the apèritif of Bordeaux”. Bond’s glassware of choice for the Vesper is a deep Champagne goblet.
Ingredients:
3 measures of Gordon’s Gin
1 measure of vodka
1/2 measure Kina Lillet
lemon peel for garnish
Directions:
The Vesper according to Ian Fleming and James Bond:
“Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?”
