Saturday
EVE
The bigger-than-life Grammy-winning rap and hip-hop artist, Eve Jihan Jeffers, known for her unique brand of universal glamour in music, film and fashion, will be the Saturday headliner at this year’s Pride festival, in Balboa Park. Eve took the music scene by storm with successful hits, “What Ya Want” and “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.”
Since then the Philadelphia-bred artist is blazing the tour trail while preparing an adventurous, more mature album titled, “Lip Lock.” The artist recently started her own film and production company and is preparing to launch a fashion line. With recent stints on Glee and Whip It! - plus an upcoming VH1 Behind the Music episode scheduled to air this summer, Eve’s red-hot persona continues seizing the limelight.
Her performance at the San Diego Pride festival is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., Saturday, July 17, on the Cox Communications Main Stage.
Sunday
Blake Lewis
American Idol alum and beat boxing artist Blake Lewis will take to the Cox Communications main stage at this year’s festival. Lewis, who made a name for himself as the unconventional and charming beat boxer on season six of American Idol (2007), was selected as first runner-up on the show for his performances. Among them was a performance of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name,” which became the biggest-selling download of the season on iTunes, with more than 190,000 downloads.
His appearance at the San Diego Pride festival is scheduled for 6:10 p.m., Sunday, July 18.
DEVO
The legendary Devo will close out Pride weekend with a headline performance scheduled for 7:15 p.m., Sunday, July 18. The classic line-up of the 1980s band is back, fresh from performances at the Winter Olympics, Coachella music festival, and television appearances with David Letterman and Stephen Colbert.
More than three decades after the release of their visionary debut, “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo,” the group has reignited the music scene with its original band members, joined by drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Guns n’ Roses) in a comeback album titled, “Something for Everybody.” The music contains the band’s signature mechanized swing, though with rare input from focus groups contributing to song mixes.
Devo’s earlier works, which caught the attention of music icons David Bowie and Neil Young, include the wildly popular songs, “Whip It” and “Girl U Want.” Combined with revolutionary music videos, the group became one of the defining, cutting-edge acts of the 1980s.
