Team USA Wins in the (IFAF) Women’s World Championship

Stockholm, Sweden – America’s women’s football team defeated Austria 63-0 last Sunday at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s World Championship being held in Stockholm, Sweden.
This is the first ever U.S. Women’s national team and it is managed and assembled by USA Football and the Independent Women’s Football League. Two players from San Diego’s women’s professional football team; the So Cal Scorpions were selected to be on the roster.
Quarterback, Melissa Gallegos of Eastlake and Running Back, Desiree Weimann of Temecula were two of 45 players selected across the nation to represent the United States.
Both Weimann and Gallegos are veteran players of the Scorpions and have played since the team’s inaugural season in 2003. “You just cannot imagine the honor,” stated Gallegos by phone Saturday night. The team will next take on Finland on Thursday July 1st at 6:00 p.m. with all medal finals being held on Saturday.
