Jim Messina – Jim Messina will be performing at the Anthology in San Diego on Friday, August 13th at 7:30 p.m. Jim Messina is a former member of Buffalo Springfield and an original member of the country rock band Poco, but he is best known for his work with Kenny Loggins in the soft rock duo, Loggins and Messina. His hits include “Danny’s Song,” “House At Pooh Corner” and “Your Mama Don’t Dance.” While with Buffalo Springfield, he served as a recording engineer, producer, and eventually as a bass player (he replaced Bruce Palmer) on their last album. Relay for Life - A special Fight Back Ceremony, held during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of National City, will provide everyone in the community the opportunity to make a pledge to take personal action in the fight against cancer. The ceremony will be held at Kimball Park on Aug. 14th-15th at 10 a.m. to 10 a.m. Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people- to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer; remember loved ones lost to the disease; and fight back against a disease that takes too much. Twelfth Night/As You Like It - The Old Globe’s third annual Summer Shakespeare Intensive for teens will conclude on Monday, August 16 at 8:00 p.m. with a bilingual (English/Spanish) performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and As You Like It. The four week program is a unique opportunity for local High School actors and actresses to refine their skills as performers in a professional setting. To celebrate the Globe’s 75th anniversary, this year the students will perform 50-minute versions of the two Shakespeare plays. Tickets are $9 for children and $13 for adults. MOZU - TAFFE Productions presents the world premiere of Carlsbad playwright Steven Oberman’s new musical Mozu at the Diversionary Theatre on August 19th at 8 p.m. Set in the Shiga Heights of Japan, Mozu is the exciting new musical inspired by the life of an actual Japanese macaque, or snow monkey, named Mozu. Physically challenged with deformed hands and feet, Mozu desires an alliance with “the giants” (humans) in order to survive. As her troop’s intricate social order is disrupted by inner conflict and outside forces, Mozu must decide what price she is willing to pay for this kind of support.
