HIV and Aging
The Being Alive Learning Center will be hosting the HIV and Aging learning series on Wednesday, September 15th at 6 p.m. Presented by Bill Grimes of Comprehensive Health, this session will focus on learning to cope with the issues associated with HIV and aging. The event will be held at the Priority Moms Pharmacy located at 3940 4th Ave, suite 140. The event is sponsored by Priority Moms Pharmacy. Dinner will be provided. The Being Alive Learning Center will be hosting the Mental Health and HIV learning series on Thursday, September 16th at 6 p.m. Presented by Keith Waltrip, Advocacy Relations Manager for Abbott Virology, this session will focus on learning to cope with the mental health and varying associated in living with HIV. Sex and Relationships in Sobriety
The Being Alive Learning Center will be hosting the Sex and Relationships in Sobriety learning series, every Thursday night at 5:45 p.m. This is a meeting of Crystal Meth Anonymous. This series focuses on learning to balance a healthy sex and relationship life while dealing with the hardships of sobriety. CCR5 Information and Update
The Being Alive Learning Center will be hosting CCR5 Information and Update session on Wednesday, August 25th at 6 p.m. Speaking will be Dr. Daniel Lee. This session will focus on teaching and updating the community about the new class of drugs used to fight HIV. It is encouraged to spread word of this event as well as bringing a friend. Lead Singer of Kumbia Kings performs at Bacchus House Mexican Independent Party Friday, Sept 10th
Latin Royalty Entertainment will be presenting DJ Kane, Lead Singer of Kumbia Kings live on stage at Bacchus House on Friday, September 10th, show time at 12:00 a.m. “Latin Royalty Hustler Party continues to excite people; we are so excited to kick off Mexican Independent and bring this Latin artist to the Bacchus House” said Bacchus House General Manager Allan Spyere-Spackman. There will be a limited number of VIP Meet & Greet Passes available this night which includes a private champagne Meet & Greet, DJ Kane newest CD and complimentary drinks. San Diego Roller Derby strives for 9th straight win
San Diego’s up-and-coming women’s flat track roller derby league will continue the season with the only flat-track derby bouts to be held in San Diego for 2010.
The San Diego Roller Derby (SDRD) will continue with their debut 2010 season. On Saturday, August 21st, the Mission City Brawlin’ Betties from Santa Barbara are coming to town to face the SDRD Starlettes for an evening of thrilling women’s roller derby action! The game will include a half-time event to benefit Locks of Love. Watch SDRD members Ortega Chile and Lady Diesel as they get their hair cut to donate to Locks of Love! SDRD plays all home bouts at Skateworld, the last remaining roller rink in the City of San Diego and is at located at 6907 Linda Vista Rd in San Diego. Doors will open at 5:00 pm and the bout starts at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $12 general admission and children, ages five and under, are free. Ticket prices include admission to the open skating session immediately following the game (skate rental extra). Tickets are available online, at the door, or from any SDRD member.
The Truth About GLBT Life Planning
The Center San Diego will be hosting its GLBT Life Planning workshop on Thursday, August 26th at 7 p.m. at their location at 3909 Centre Street. This unique workshop will cover the basics of GLBT life planning, the minimum legal documents that all GLBT individuals should have in place as part of a basic estate plan, a three-step strategy to building and maintaining a plan, information on basic asset titling and more. The workshop will be presented by Jory Wolf (President, Modern Wealth Group), Chris Dorazio (Partner, Modern Wealth Group) and Siddharth Chhokar (Managing Partner, Chhokar Law Group, P.C.) and will take place in The Center’s library. Sublime Sundays on the Bay!
A fresh new San Diego happening awaits the GLBT community on September 5th and 19th. Enjoy a classy yacht cruise on the bay with 48 other wonderful people aboard the 85 foot Corporate Image Yacht with music by DJ Maleko, dancing, and a complimentary champagne boarding toast! Boarding will begin at 3:30 p.m. and departing at 4 p.m. sharp at the Sheraton Harbor Island Marina located at 1380 Harbor Island Dr. in San Diego. Return time will be at 6 p.m. Along with music by DJ Maleko, other amenities include Hors d’oeuvres, air conditioned level, big screen TVs, smoking allowed on the bow, domestic drafts starting at $4, wine at $5, well at $6 as well as a premium bar will be available. All That Glitters
The San Diego Natural History Museum is pleased to continue their successful exhibition, developed and designed by Museum staff, entitled All That Glitters: The Splendor and Science of Gems and Minerals. The exhibition, which opened May 15, 2010, and is scheduled to remain on display at the Museum through April 2012, will take visitors beyond the “bling” to see gems and minerals as very rare and ancient by-products of the forces that have created our landscape, including right here in San Diego County. The exhibition is generously supported by Jerome’s Furniture, San Diego County Board of Supervisors at the recommendation of Chairwoman Pam Slater-Price, Charles Koll Jewellers, The Hervey Family Fund at The San Diego Foundation in honor of J. Jessop and Sons Jewelers, and Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The Museum will host a black-tie gala on Saturday, May 22, honoring Chairwoman Pam Slater-Price and celebrating both the opening of All That Glitters and the Museum’s 135th anniversary.
