Business Spotlight: Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory opened its doors in the popular Uptown Shopping District on Nov. 1, 2003. Owners Greg Gorman and Mike Finnegan found that there were no chocolate stores in the greater San Diego area near Hillcrest, Mission Hills or Bankers Hill and felt that their shop could fill a void in the community.
Unlike some of their competitors, Rocky Mountain Chocolates are handmade, either on site at their store or in their factory in Durango. Their delicious caramel apples and fudge are both made on site, and if you need proof all you have to do is stop by and look in their window, where you can watch them bake. Rocky Mountain Chocolates also hand double dip all of their strawberries, bananas, cheesecake and dried fruit right in the store and they offer fresh fondues throughout the day.
Both Gorman and Finnegan are native New Yorkers who moved to San Diego last year to enjoy the beautiful weather and southern California lifestyle. Before moving to San Diego, Gorman taught deaf teens in middle school and high school. Finnegan was a project manager in the computer field.
Rocky Mountain Chocolates actively supports local fundraising drives and community events. They are a member of the Greater San Diego Business Association and look forward to doing their share to make this community the finest (and sweetest) one in “America’s Finest City.”
