IFBP to Convene Regional Black and Brown Summit in Southern California
The International Federation of Black Prides, Inc.(IFBP) will be holding its second Regional Black and Brown Summit in southern California on Friday October 1 and Saturday October 2, 2010 at the San Diego GLBT Community Center, 3909 Centre Street, San Diego. The Black/Brown Coalition was conceptualized by Carolina Ramos, Latino Services Coordinator, San Diego GLBT Community Center and Earl Fowlkes, IFBP President/CEO after a joint presentation on reaching out to GLBT Communities of Color for the Democratic National Committee Western Region training in Las Vegas, NV in March 2007. The first Black and Brown Summit was during Philadelphia Black Gay Pride in April 2008. There have been Black and Brown Summits held in Dallas, Chicago and Los Angeles.
The IFBP is a coalition of forty two Black Pride organizations formed to promote a multinational network of GLBT/Same Gender Loving Pride and community-based organizations dedicated to building solidarity, health, wellness, unity, and ensuring the development of education, economic empowerment, individual and collective work, responsibility, and self-determination. Over 400,000 people attended Black Prides in the United States in 2009.
“The purpose of the National & Regional Black and Brown Summits are to identify areas for potential collaboration between African American and Latino GLBT communities, leaders, organizations and grass roots movements,” said Earl Fowlkes. In short, the IFBP is hoping the summit will help to inspire African American and Latino GLBT communities’ action, motivate young leadership, accentuate and embolden our collective political power and voice in this very important election year and beyond. “We are really excited about the possibilities of this historical summit based on feedback from both communities over the past few months in Southern California” said Ramos.
The Black and Brown Summit will take place on Saturday October 2, 2010 from 9:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at San Diego GLBT Community Center. Registration is $5 which includes materials, breakfast and lunch. The registration form can be downloaded on the IFBP web site: www.ifbprides.org. The Summit will be preceded by a community reception on Friday October 1, 2010 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., also at the San Diego GLBT Community Center. The Summit is funded by generous support of the Arcus Foundation and co-sponsored by the San Diego GlBT Community Center, San Diego Democratic Club, Gay & Lesbian Times and the Imperial Court De San Diego, Inc.

Watch out San Diego!
A new Christian Talk Show called Around San Diego is launching
“This show will feature some of the best and the brightest in the Christian community. It will capture the essence of what’s really going on in our streets, in our city, in our communities, and ultimately our world”, says host Stephanie Maxwell.
The show will entertain guest from all walks of life. From pastors and preachers, to storytellers and ministers, to community developers, and entrepreneurs, Around San Diego will encompass a full myriad of those who are living through and working for Christ in their businesses, ministries, and lives.
Around San Diego will also feature some of the best in Gospel music, and Christian entertainment, as well as actors and actresses, and a full host of those in the entertainment field who are living their lives through, and for Christ. The show will allow attendees to testify on the goodness of Jesus Christ, and share genuine stories of how Christ healed, restored, repaired, and completely ratified their lives, while delivering them from a life of sin. It will enable those who want or desire a new walk with Christ the opportunity to do so. Host, creator, writer, and producer, Stephanie L. Maxwell will develop show topics that will state our human condition, address our daily trials and tribulations and discuss them in both a biblical, as well as spiritual manner.
When asked by The Gay & Lesbian Times what she would address on the show and what she would minister along with her stance in regards to homosexuals she had the following to say.
“We will be talking about and taking testimonies from those who have been healed, restored and delivered by Jesus Christ. We’ll talk about how Christ is working through them and their lives and for those to testify in these last days we our living our lives. We will also discuss how Satan is destroying families.”
“We will take the stance of the bible and the bible is very clear about (homosexuals) that. We again will stand by the bible and what the bible says. We are not against the person we are against the act. It is all there in Romans 1. We will have those on the show who have found their way out of that lifestyle (homosexual) and have been delivered by Christ. This will be an issue that we talk about on the show and we will have testimony about this.”
She was then asked if she had heard of Exodus International or if they contributed to the show in any way. She had this to say.
“Exodus. I would love to check them out. What is there web address? Do you know?”
Taping begins in October. Check your local public access channel for airdates and times. For more information about Around San Diego, contact Stephanie L. Maxwell at (619) 563-2018.
