Ray at Night: The second Saturday of every month is Ray at Night on Ray St. in North Park, from 6:00 p.m.-12:00 midnight. Multiple galleries stay open late, featuring live music and snacks and booze in abundance. The free event is located on Ray St, between University Ave and North Park Way.
Don’t quote the raven: Best known for his role as Gomez on The Addams Family, John Astin stars in Edgar Allen Poe — Once Upon a Midnight tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Cultural dance heritage: Hailed by critics as one of the highest-profile dance events in the state, the San Diego Dance Alliance presents the 11th annual Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival today at 2:00 p.m. through Jan. 18 at the Mandeville Auditorium at UCSD in La Jolla. Over 250 dancers and musicians and a dozen dance troupes celebrate the cultures of Mexico, Spain, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Argentina, the Philippines, India, China, Bali, Serbia, Ghana and the US. Globe Theatre insight: The Old Globe Theatre’s newest production, Sky Girls, follows the path of five fictional WWII female fliers who, in 1944, hope to become US Women Air Force Service Pilots WASPs. An Insight Seminar, which gives the audience an opportunity to hear from artists involved in all phases of production and discuss the performance with them, will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the theatre and conclude with an informal champagne reception. Movies with no limits: Media Arts Center has begun a monthly series called Cinema en Tu Idioma/Movies in Your Language. Every month, a film is brought from Latin America and runs for a week at Madstone Theaters in Mission Valley. This month’s film, En la Cuidad Sin Limites by director Antonio Hernandez, follows successful businessman Max, who lies dying in a Paris hospital, and his family as they try to unravel his barely coherent ruminations about a plot against a man named Rancel. Fresh sound: The San Diego Museum of Art and Spruce Street Forum have teamed up to present the next installment of their highly acclaimed Fresh Sound Concert Series, En e’cho, tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum of Art. En e’cho features electronic musician Miller Pucket mixing sound with soprano Juliana Snapper, using the sonic quality of the vocalist to control selected aspects of the electronic part.
