Fake $20 bills being passed at local bars
‘Contest hopper’ believed to be responsible

Bar owners are being warned to be on the lookout for a man who goes by the name Jorge who has allegedly been passing fake $20 bills at local businesses over the last few weeks. So far the phony 20s have turned up at Flicks and Bacchus House, and other local bars have been warned in order to prevent the suspect from passing any more.
“There was no point in me calling the police because I have no actual physical information on him as to where he lives,” said Nigel Mayer, co-owner of Flicks. “All I know is that he’s been kicked out of Bourbon Street and he’s been hitting other bars. Even Trixie, our candy girl, has the same phony $20 bill that we have.”
According to Mayer, the fake bills were poorly done copies that had the same image of Andrew Jackson printed on both sides, but when they were handed over in the busy bar scene employees missed the mistakes. All of the bills also featured the same serial number, meaning that they were forged from the same source.
Employees at Flicks were the first to catch the fake bills, which were being used by an individual known only as Jorge, a local who frequents go-go boy and wet underwear contests. They believe he may be responsible for the other fake bills being used around town.
“He’s been known for doing the circuit at Flicks, down at The Hole — he gets around town,” said Robi Cox, co-owner of Bacchus House.
According to Cox, Bacchus House received a fake $20 bill on Saturday, Dec. 27. Employees didn’t notice the fake bill until they were closing out their registers at the end of the night. After Cox was notified of the alleged culprit passing the fake 20s, he tried to lure Jorge back to the bar so that police could arrest him, however Jorge ended up turning down an offer to go-go dance on New Years Eve.
Bacchus House and Flicks are not the first bars to have problems with Jorge, who has danced at Bourbon Street in the past. After breaking into a Bourbon Street employee’s homes he was asked not to come back and dance, and has since been permanently kicked out of the bar.
“He’s tried to come in here a few times and we wouldn’t let him in,” Michael Mack, the manager of Bourbon Street, told the Gay and Lesbian Times.
Since the bars began noticing the phony $20 bills Jorge has not been seen, but bar owners are eager to catch him so that he can be turned over to the police and charges can be pressed against him.
“He hasn’t been back since that time,” Mayer said. “If he comes back into the bar we are going to handcuff him and turn him over to the police. We should have done that the first time and unfortunately we didn’t.”
Anyone who has any information on Jorge, including his last name or whereabouts, is urged to contact either Bacchus House at (619) 299-2032 or Flicks at (619) 297-2056.
