New funding to help develop GLBT senior programs
Published Thursday, 29-Jan-2004 in issue 840
ElderHelp of San Diego is a mainstream community based non-profit agency that, since 1973, has helped low-income seniors preserve their dignity and independence. They provide care management, in-home services, housing, information and assistance to seniors and their families throughout central and eastern San Diego. Recently they received a $45,000 grant from The California Endowment to facilitate the development of programs and services for GLBT seniors. They plan to convene a collaboration of GLBT community-based organizations and health and social service providers to review the results of the recent Senior Needs Assessment conducted by Alliance Healthcare Foundation and funded by The California Endowment. This collaboration will use the assessment to identify gaps in services and to develop culturally responsive programs and training to improve access to healthcare for GLBT seniors.
