Celebrate Mardi Gras all week at Bourbon Street
For Mardi Gras revelers looking for good times, entertainment to the hilt and shows so good you might think you were in New Orleans, visit Bourbon Street during “Seven Days of Decadence.” Bourbon Street promises to throw an entire week of parties not to be missed.
The party begins Wednesday, Feb. 18 and ends with a bang on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The week of nonstop festivities will range from concerts with local jazz artist Janice Edwards to Bingo night, a “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” CD release party, the ever-present Mardi Gras bead toss and much much more.
The grand finale will take place on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 24, and will include a Cajun buffet, street performers, multiple bead tosses, renowned DJ Bryan Pfeifer and the crowning of the King and Queen of Mardi Gras. Spend an entire week celebrating in style at Bourbon Street. This year part of the proceeds raised from the week-long event will benefit The Ben F. Dillengham Community Grant. For more information, call Bourbon Street at (619) 291-4043.
San Diego LGBT Pride selects 30th anniversary logo
San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride has selected a winning logo for its upcoming 30th anniversary celebration in a contest that drew nearly three-dozen submissions from the community.
Cindy Uybungco of Curb Grafix will receive $500 for her six-color entry, which corresponds to this year’s theme, “30 Years of Pride: Strength in Numbers.” Pride’s anniversary weekend is scheduled for July 30, 31 and Aug. 1.
Pride’s Board of Directors chose the image last week after community members narrowed down their choices to three favorite designs. The logo will appear on all commemorative merchandise and promotional materials in the coming months.
In other news, a kick-off anniversary reception for Pride will be held for the entire community from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., March 3, in The Center’s auditorium. Pride staff and board members will be present and refreshments, snacks and birthday cake will be served. Visitors can also offer suggestions for this year’s Pride award recipients and inquire about volunteer opportunities and various other ways to get involved in this year’s Pride season.

Bus Stop revolves around a group of bus passengers stranded during a snowstorm in a 1950s Kansas roadside diner, setting the stage for a touching and humorous exploration of American hopes and dreams. No Secret Anymore tells the story of Del Martin and Phyllis Lyons, considered by many to be the founders of the modern lesbian civil rights movement. When they courageously launched the Daughters of Bilitis in 1955, it became the first public organization for lesbians in America. This documentary follows their story through half a century, tracing the emergence of lesbians from the fear of discovery to an expectation of equality. The premiere will be followed by a talk back session with the director and a no-host social hour. Tickets are $10 at the door and proceeds benefit the Women’s Resource Center at The Center. For tickets and more information, contact Summer Morse at (619) 692-2077, ext. 247.
