You’re invited to a Presidential Inauguration: March 24
The beautiful home of prominent attorney Bruce M. Abrams, which looks like a mini White House, will be the site of the inauguration ceremony installing Dr. Pat Washington as the new president of the San Diego Chapter of NOW. … Pat will become the first African-American woman to hold this position in San Diego. Flying in for this “Red-White-Blue” gala will be the first African-American woman to have been elected the national president of NOW, Ms. Aileen Hernandez. So mark your calendar for Wed., Mar. 24, and for further information phone (619) 582-5383.
Easter baskets, stuffed bunnies, jelly beans wanted!!
The Second annual Community Easter Egg Hunt for children is coming up on April 11 at Trolley Barn Park. … Last year over 100 children attended and there was an appearance by a guest of honor: The Easter Bunnie!! This year they badly need jelly beans, Easter baskets, stuffed bunnies, candy, chocolate bunnies, etc. Please give what you can as a bigger crowd of children is expected. … Call Linda Childers for more information: (619) 303-2384 … and thank you!
The Center’s Oscar Party was fabulous!
The Center’s Third annual Oscar Party was a fun and fabulous night and the place looked great! The great crowd was treated to a catered buffet dinner (The Abbey) … drinks, door prizes donated by major movie studios, and the camp M. Cing during commercials with Dominic of Bourbon Street and Christina Monet (both dressed to the nines). A lot of work went into making The Center look fabulous, and hats off to Shawn Ingram, Summer Morse, Zac Mikles, Eddie Valtierra and the entire staff and volunteers. I highly recommend this party to put on your social calendar for next year. By the way, the evening’s fabulous Oscar Party décor/design was done by a mother and son team: James and Joan Brewer … Great job!
Best dentist in town: Dr. Jeff Keeny
Everyone needs a dentist and for more than 20 years the number one dentist in town for our community has been Dr. Jeffrey S. Keeny (1807 Robinson Ave, Suite 101). Just everyone goes to him because he is the most professional and friendly, with that famous gentle touch. Another reason is his outstanding caring staff, who go out of their way to make you feel at home. … So for your regular check-up or the best in artistic cosmetic dentistry, it’s Dr. Keeny. Phone (619) 295-1512.

Happy birthday, Dr. Greg Scot, of Bacchus House, this Friday
Yes, Numbers bought The Flame
Yes, you read right in my column last week when I broke the news that the owners of Numbers have indeed bought the Flame, and yes, they will keep the name as it is but are planning some major remodeling that will make the Flame a great new nightclub where everyone will be welcomed … The new Flame plans to add some more excitement in our community’s entertainment nightlife, including top DJs, dancing and top performers. … Numbers officially takes over the Flame next month and it’s the talk of the town. … Congratulations to the three new handsome and popular owners Nick Moede, Richard Britton and Butch Von Ryan … and, just like at Numbers, they will continue to always give back to our community.
Happy birthday to Butch, on Sat. Mar. 6th!

2004 primary election people-politics-opinions
The shocker of Super Tuesday night was Lori Saldana beating out Vince Hall and Heidi Von Szeliski in the 76th State Assembly Race. … Political hack Heidi came in last, but her smears against favorite Hall damaged him. Vince Hall is young and still has a political future ahead of him. … I was contacted by representatives for Tricia Hunter and will be meeting with her. … Hopefully we have heard the last of Peter Q. Davis who has spent over $1 million in his two races for mayor. Hey, Peter, why not try and spend a million and get a personality? Mike Aguirre came out way ahead in the race for city attorney and will be facing Leslie Devaney. I had breakfast with Devaney a while back and she is a nice individual but look for this race still to become the most negative/nasty of them all. Our Toni Atkins survived a last-minute, smear-campaign mailer attacking her on the Boy Scouts, needle exchange and compassionate marijuana use. John Hartley will go down in history as our very own Benedict Arnold. Mayor Murphy, who was endorsed by GLBT Vote 2004 and Toni Atkins, will face Ron Roberts who was endorsed by the Gay & Lesbian Times. … Look for another heated campaign and a possible split GLBT vote. On election night Richard Britton, Big Mike and I stopped by Mike Aguirre’s beautiful home for a party, then we headed downtown to the U.S. Grant and Westgate hotels for all the campaign parties. I had a nice long talk with popular Councilmember Michael Zucchet who tells me his new baby is doing well. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis looked beautiful in a lavender outfit and boy has she lost a lot of weight (maybe she’ll give me her secret). After Toni Atkins’ last term is up people are already talking County Supervisor. Other future talk is about Bob Filner for mayor in 2008, and to replace Atkins on the council the spotlight is already on Jeff Gattas, Todd Gloria, Pat Washington and Jess Durfee to name a few. Now one of our top priorities must be to support Chris Kehoe for the State Senate … all aboard!!! Maybe now the San Diego Democratic Club will finally officially endorse Scott Peters (GLBT Vote 2004 did) for city council over his right-wing opponent in November. I knew and was good friends with Tom Homann (he was also my attorney) and I know he would have endorsed Mike Aguirre as they were friends and alike in many ways. … Hopefully now the Tom Homann Law Association will now fix their mistake and do the right thing … finally. Last but not least … Hey, John Harley, start taking down all those ugly red and blue yard signs. They have been officially declared an eye sore!
