Mardi Gras raises more than revelry
Celebrations raise $6,000 for Community Grant
Published Thursday, 11-Mar-2004 in issue 846
Bourbon Street’s Mardi Gras was more than just beads and parties. The seven-day event also raised $6,000 for the Ben F. Dillingham III Community Grant. The Community Grant, established by City Commissioner Nicole Murray-Ramirez, was established to help cover burial costs for people in need. Operated through the Imperial Court de San Diego, it also makes specific contributions to other GLBT organizations and builds bridges to other communities in San Diego.
The money was raised by Bourbon Street, the Imperial Court and a special contribution from Miller Lite. Other sponsors who raised funds were The Abbey, Arrivederci, Buzz, Café on Park, The Gay & Lesbian Times, House of Blues, Jeffrey Sanker’s White Party, Kevin Masterson Massage, Numbers, Ono Sushi, Powerhouse Gym, Derek Soderblom Personal Training, Marriott Marina & Hotel/Sally’s, Prava Hotel, Rich’s, Smirnoff, Sysco, Update and Xodus.
