This past Saturday was a busy one for me. First I stopped by city attorney candidate Mike Aguirre’s home for a barbeque, then it was off to Ben Dillingham’s beautiful home for the SLDN fundraiser, then Flicks for long-time award-winning DJ Joe’s farewell party, and onward then to Update’s anniversary party which packed The Center… yes, four events in less that three-and-a-half hours!
Community’s children invited to Easter egg hunt
The 2nd annual GLBT Community Children’s Easter Egg Hunt will once again be held at Trolley Park in University Heights on Easter Sunday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 1-12… last year over 100 kids showed up for this really fun event that included a visit by the Easter Bunny! This family event is sponsored by the Imperial Court and co-sponsored by Family Matters, Bourbon Street and the Gay & Lesbian Times.
Easter baskets, stuffed bunnies, eggs, etc. are still needed, so phone Linda Childers at (619) 303-2384 for more information on how to donate.
Rich’s family and friends rally round Ken
photo
Rich’s Ken Jordan and his brother Greg
Once again the great staff of Rich’s organized a fundraiser for one of their own in need of support, and once again the community responded with love and financial support. Not long ago, a fundraiser was held for “Big Mike” who was diagnosed with cancer.
This time former “Nicky Award”-winning manager and part owner of Rich’s, Ken Jordon, who has Lou Gehrig’s disease, received an outpouring of support from our community, friends and Rich’s family. Bob Lehman of Bourbon Street and I stopped by and it was great to see such a good and diverse crowd. The food provided by Ono Sushi and Café W was fabulous… at times like this I am so proud of our community who always proves its deep humanitarian and compassionate side of itself when called upon. Ken, who is now totally paralyzed, is being cared for by many of his friends… “unsung heroes” in my book. You’re in many of our thoughts and prayers, Kenny… if you’re interested in sending a donation, make your check out to: Greg Jordan, 1286 University Ave. #235, San Diego, CA 92103… Thank you.

A big “thank you” to Joe and Nigel for always giving back to our community, AIDS agencies and civil rights and political causes… and bravo to the entire Flicks staff!
