Business Spotlight: Korova Coffee Bar
4496 Park Blvd.; (619) 260-1917
Published Thursday, 25-Mar-2004 in issue 848
Formerly the Book Garden Café, The Korova Coffee bar is undergoing a transformation and becoming one of University Heights’ newest hot spots. Korova is named after the Milk Bar from the movie Clockwork Orange.
Korova serves a full line of espresso drinks, fine coffee and pastries. Their menu features a wide variety of sandwiches and other tasty items including bagels with cream cheese, pesto and roma tomatoes, and their hummus plate with kalamata olives. Korova has a nightly happy hour from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. where all drinks are 50 percent off, and on Thursday nights they hold a Latin Jam Session from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.
The goal at Korova is to provide the best service and highest quality of products all in an environment where people can come in, relax, grab a cup of Joe and enjoy the artwork that surrounds them.
Douglas Trieschmeun, a self-described coffee addict and San Diego native, has been in the coffee business for six years, but has also studied fashion merchandising in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. He felt that the coffee business was the more relaxed line of work to be in.
“Our community is an ever-growing, unique mix of people which I feel grateful to be a part of,” Trieschmeun said. “Our community is something to be proud of! Fifty years ago who would have guessed we’d be where we are at today. I’m excited to be a part of this amazing group of individuals.”
