Actor Wilson Cruz to appear at upcoming Youth Pride
San Diego’s second annual Youth Pride celebration is scheduled for April 30 and May 1, at The Center, 3909 Centre St. This year’s theme is “SuperQueer”.
The two-day free event will feature a special appearance on April 30 by openly gay actor Wilson Cruz of the Fox Network television program, “My So-Called Life”. Cruz has also performed with touring companies in the production of RENT and appeared in the GLBT film, All Over Me.
The free festivities begin with an intergenerational “Family OUTing” day in the Center’s auditorium from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., Friday, April 30. The evening will feature live entertainment, an art exhibit and youth theater pieces.
On the following day, May 1, a youth march is planned at 11:00 a.m., beginning at the Hillcrest Youth Center and ending at The Center. An afternoon festival (restricted to ages 14-24) begins in the parking lot immediately after the march, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. It will feature vendor booths, food and refreshments, art and live entertainment. The event allows for one adult per youth to attend.

Peace-ing It Together
The Human Relations Commission welcomes the community to a peace forum entitled “Peace-ing It Together”, on Wednesday, April 7. The forum will be held at the Point Loma Library, 3701 Voltaire Street, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Speakers at the forum include Ples Feliz of the Tariq Khamesa Foundation, Scott Fulkerson of the Citizens’ Review Board on Police Practices, Miko Peled and Nader Elbanna from the Jewish/Palestinian Dialogue, and Michele Little from Unite in Peace.

City Heights’ International Village Celebration seeks vendors
International food and merchandise vendors, community groups and cultural organizations are being sought for participation in the 12th Annual City Heights International Village Celebration. This popular annual tradition will take place on Saturday, June 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on University Avenue from Fairmount Avenue to Euclid in City Heights.
The City Heights International Village Celebration is a free, family-friendly street fair that features four stages of live entertainment, great ethnic food and merchandise vendors, a Career Corner job fair, a community health fair, a Kids Fun Zone and other activities that are fun for the whole family.
In its 12th year, the City Heights International Village Celebration attracts over 45,000 attendees to enjoy a day of music, food and fun. This family-friendly event is alcohol and tobacco-free.

Latina lesbian health summit – scholarships available
Scholarships are available for the Latina Lesbian Health Summit taking place April 22-24 in Washington, DC. This summit, presented by LLEGÓ, the National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Organization, is organized specifically to meet the growing public health needs of Latina lesbians and to develop a sustainable lesbian health agenda. Community Easter Egg hunt
Join the Imperial Court de San Diego for its second annual Easter Egg hunt. This free event provides fun for children and families from all over San Diego. The egg hunt will be held on Easter Sunday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m., at Trolley Barn Park located at Adams Avenue and Park Blvd. Children ages 1 through 12 are invited to attend and there will be a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. Donations of Easter baskets, candy and stuffed bunnies are being accepted for the event. Complete Easter baskets will need to be dropped off at The Center by April 10.

Aerospace Museum Lecture: Wally Funk
While the country hailed the first astronauts known as “The Mercury Seven”, a lesser-known group comprised of 13 women successfully completed the grueling physical tests used to select America’s first astronauts. In 1961, Wally Funk – a professional pilot since 1957 who has logged over 16,800 hours of flying time – was the youngest of these women. Funk will tell the tale of these pioneering women – later dubbed the “The Mercury 13” – as well as her plans to pilot Solaris X, Interorbital System’s entry into the X PRIZE competition. Funk will be available to sign copies of Martha Ackmann’s book The Mercury 13: The Untold Story of Thirteen American Women and the Dream of Space Flight at the Aerospace Museum April 8, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cost per lecture is $10 for San Diego Aerospace Museum members or $15 for non-members. Students, guests of AIAA/SDAM members, and AIAA Student Branch members at UCSD and SDSU will be admitted free.
Hillcrest Wind Ensemble Spring Concert
The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble will be performing a concert of Impressionistic music, including excerpts from Gershwin’s “American in Paris”, Copeland’s “Hoedown” and more. The annual spring concert is not to be missed and will be held on Saturday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at The Center, located at 3909 Centre Street.
Family Matters Considering Parenthood Support Group
Join Family Matters the third Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Casey Family Programs, 3878 Old Town Ave, room 106. This group is for all lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender couples or singles who are thinking about or are in the process of becoming parents through foster care, adoption, surrogacy, insemination, IVF, etc. Call (619) 298-5431 for more information.
Five Minute Man
Looking to meet new people? Friends, activity partners, dates, it’s all possible at 5 Minute Man. Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Gay Men’s Health Program invites the community to attend 5 Minute Man, a fun and interactive alternative to meeting guys in San Diego. Everyone’s talking about it, so why not come check it out! Events are held at the Joyce Beers Community Center (by Trader Joe’s in Hillcrest) at 7:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month. This is a totally free event, and refreshments will be served. Come check it out on Sunday, April 4.

Century 21 recognizes local agent
Century 21 Real Estate Corporation recently recognized local agent Keith Nelson with a coveted Diamond Level Masters Award. Diamond level status is awarded to an agent who has met minimum adjusted gross commissions of $153,000 or 50 awards units within a calendar year.
