Taking place annually in the desert oasis of Palm Springs on Easter weekend, White Party has been the crown jewel of the gay party circuit for 15 years now. The non-stop party draws some of the most talented DJs from around the globe and an array of talented singers, performers and dancers.

“Over the past 15 years, the city of Palm Springs has graciously welcomed White Party, which is one of the main reasons it has been so successful and continued to grow,” said White Party Producer Jeffrey Sanker. “I look forward to the next 15 years and beyond with White Party Palm Springs.”

White Party weekend will be getting an early start on Thursday, April 8, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:00 p.m. featuring the openly gay mayor of Palm Springs, Ron Oden, at the newly renamed White Party Park. The park is located adjacent to the former Marquis Hotel. The City of Palm Springs will also be presenting Sanker with a proclamation to celebrate the 15th anniversary of White Party.

“Palm Springs is known for our celebration of diversity; therefore, once again, we are proud to welcome Jeffrey Sanker and his annual White Party,” said Mayor Oden in a news release. “After 15 years of continued growth and worldwide visibility, the week has become a valuable signature event for our city and the local economy.”

And what a signature event it is. With over 25,000 expected attendees at the actual White Party events and thousands more coming into town to take part in the myriad of festivities that practically take over the community, White Party is a phenomenon like no other.

Originating in 1989 as a weekend getaway for men from Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, White Party has grown to become the most significant event on the global gay party circuit, attracting visitors from as far away as Germany, Australia and the UK. White Party has become the largest annual tourist revenue event for the City of Palm Springs and surrounding areas – surpassing the numerous professional golf tournaments, conventions and music and film festivals hosted by the city.

The DJ lineup for this year’s White Party includes Tony Moran, Manny Lehman, Roland Belmares, Kimberly S, Abel and Brett Henrichsen. Performers include Kristine W., Kelis and Simone Denny, who has had a stellar year with her single “All Things (Just Keep Getting Better)”, the theme song for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, that has brought her into the mainstream U.S. market. Gay fans, however, know Ms. Denny as the voice behind the dance hit “I Don’t Want You (Coming Back No More)”, which she performed at White Party 2003.

“It was wonderful, I had the chance to dress up like Marie Antoinette and perform,” Denny said about her 2003 performance at White Party. “I had six or eight wonderful dancers and the crowd was very receptive. I enjoyed it.”

Denny is no stranger to the music business. For the past 10 years she has been pursuing her music career in Canada and Europe with great success.

“I actually was a part of a group in Canada called Love Inc. and had a song called ‘You’re a Superstar’,” Denny said. “That was me, and we had five number-one hits in Canada and that song’s done tremendously well in Europe. [“All Things”] is just adding to what I’ve done, but I love the accolades that the song has received and it’s been well received in the U.S.”

Denny’s vocal prowess has earned her 10 number-one hit songs worldwide, four Juno Awards (the Canadian Grammys) and four Much Music Awards, including Best Dance Recording and Video Of the Year.

“I expect everybody to come, have fun and put their hands in the air,” Denny said about her upcoming performance at White Party. “It’s all about partying and feeling good. You know, I absolutely love the support I receive from the gay community. I am so blessed and thankful. Someone asked me if I feel frustrated singing for a gay audience and I said ‘Yeah, there are all of these beautiful men, and I’m a straight woman so they sure aren’t looking at me’ but that’s OK and I still love them.”

In addition to performing at White Party, Denny will also be hitting the Pride party circuit this coming June and will be performing at Fashion Cares in Toronto, an AIDS Fundraiser sponsored by Mac Cosmetics.

“I think it’s something that afflicts all of us,” Denny said about her participation in the HIV/AIDS fundraiser. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re black, white, gay, straight, young or old and I think it’s something that needs to be dealt with and the faster we find a cure the better.”

Denny is currently in the studio working on her new album. Her self-titled web site will be launched this summer.
