No tutus allowed: City Ballet presents “Ballet on the Edge 2004”, an innovative dance program, tonight at 8:00 p.m. in the Garfield Theatre at the Lawrence Family JCC in La Jolla. Performed for the sixth season in a row, “Ballet on Edge” showcases the cutting-edge choreography and eclectic use of music by resident choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich, challenging the company’s dancers and delighting audiences. Art alive! The San Diego Museum of Art ushers in spring with its annual celebration of art and flowers, “Art Alive”, this weekend. Belly dancing: Urban Tribal Dance Company performs at the Gargoyle Gallery and Café in San Diego’s Little Italy on the first Saturday of every month. Carmina Burana: The San Diego Symphony performs the rousing and dramatic Carmina Burana tonight today at 2:00 p.m. and again at 8:00 p.m. One of the most popular orchestral and choral works of the 20th Century, the show features a soprano, baritone and tenor, as well as a classical choir and a children’s choir. Gypsy gymnasts: Cirque du Soleil’s latest installment, the gypsy-themed Varekai, which opened March 18 in San Diego, has extended its run through April 18 due to popular demand. The blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau, located at Qualcomm Stadium, performs its magical blend of acrobatics, dance, music, clowning and surrealism Tuesdays-Thursdays at 8:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Tickets range from $50-70 for adults and $35-49 for children. LBT lecture series: The Center’s Women’s Resource Center and the SDSU Women’s Studies Department present the next installment in an eight-week lecture series on the lives of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women.
