“That 60s Show” with Gay Men’s Chorus
Published Thursday, 08-Apr-2004 in issue 850
The Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego, under the artistic direction of Adam Hemming, presents “That 60s Show”.
Join the fun as the 70-voice-strong Gay Men’s Chorus performs the music of the 1960s. The Chorus once again joins forces with In aChord Men’s Ensemble in a journey through the great songs of that very diverse decade. Two performances will take place at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center’s David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre, located at 4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla’s Golden Triangle. Performances will be at 8:00 p.m., on Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17.
With numerous Broadway credits, and stops along the way as Las Vegas’ “Diva of Jubilee”, San Diego’s Bree Burgess joins GMCSD for “That 60s Show”.
San Diego’s very own Babette Schwartz will be keeping the boys on their toes with a guest appearance. Babette has performed around the globe, appeared in Wigstock the Movie, and had a starring role in the indie film Candieland.
The Chorus will perform under the baton of Adam Hemming who was hired as the permanent Artistic Director last December. Adam has directed/conducted a large number of Broadway shows locally, regionally and abroad. For five years Hemming was the vocal director for Continental Orchestra and Singers, an international traveling group with a 50 piece orchestra and eight vocalists. In addition, Adam’s musical performance skills include piano, violin and vocal-tenor. He is a founding board member of No Square Theater in his home town of Laguna Beach.
Founded in 1992, the Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego is a proud member of GALA Choruses (the international Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses), the Greater San Diego Business Association and the San Diego Performing Arts League. The Chorus is funded in part by generous grants from the City of San Diego commission for Arts and Culture and the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation.
Tickets for reserved seating are now available through the theater box office (858) 362-1348, Obelisk the bookstore, Babette Schwartz, the chorus website and directly from chorus members. Come out to UTC on Friday, April 16, or Saturday, April 17, and join the musical revolution of the ‘60s – Gay Men’s Chorus-style.
