More than 250 children attend Community Easter Egg Hunt
Published Thursday, 15-Apr-2004 in issue 851
The Second Annual GLBT Community Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, Easter Sunday at Trolley Barn Park in University Heights, drew over 250 children ranging in age from 1-12. The free community event for children is sponsored by the Imperial Court de San Diego, with this year’s co-sponsors being Family Matters, the Gay & Lesbian Times, Bourbon Street, Niederfrank’s Ice Cream and the Latin Leather Club.
Trolley Park was decorated with huge bunnies and balloons. More than $10,000 worth of Easter baskets were provided by members of the GLBT community, including Bourbon Street, Michael Portantino, Rick Ford and All Worlds Video, No. 1 Fifth Avenue, Jackie-O, Great Earth Vitamins and members of the Imperial Court de San Diego.
The Community Easter Egg Hunt will now be an annual event, chaired and coordinated by Linda Childers. The event is the brainchild of City Commissioner (and Gay & Lesbian Times features editor) Nicole Murray Ramirez.
Free ice cream cones were provided by Patti Finnegan and Mary Ellen Faught of Niederfrank’s Ice Cream; free popcorn was provided by Chris Horton and La La Too, with sodas and water provided by the Latin Leather Club and Bourbon Street. Bacchus House provided a giant generator needed for the event.
Richard Britton of Numbers, in costume, provided an official visit from the Easter Bunny.
A highlight of the day was a giveaway of four children’s bicycles and two red wagons, donated by Robert Rodriguez and the Latin Leather Club.
