Letters to the Editor

“The 2000 election is over. Get over it.”
Dear Editor:
Where we were once feared, thanks to the Clinton administration and its do nothing policies, we are feared no more. The enemy is emboldened to destroy us and our way of life.
In last week’s letter, Mr. Darby writes about his fears of the Bush administration. Fair is fair. However, the war was started with the 9/11 attacks. He may believe there is nothing tying Iraq with terrorism but I think the events as of late will prove otherwise. The security of this nation should never be left up to the likes of France and Germany. Our relations with the world community were not as good as they were thought to be or we would have seen more cooperation.
I approve of any measure to find the enemies within this country. See how far the “my rights” argument goes when buildings start to collapse around you and you begin to choke from chemical warfare. At last, we have a President who is defending this nation instead of softening it up for our enemies. The 2000 election is over. Get over it. The same so-called “prejudiced” Supreme Court which brought Bush into the White House also ruled against the Sodomy laws, so what was your point?
One also has to consider the polarization of our political system. It’s not realistic to think that everything a candidate has to offer will ever be a done deal. Mr. Darby calls me “disingenuous” about really listening to the candidates. I’ve been to all the Kerry websites sleuthing around for anything that could sway me from having to vote Republican this year. I, too, have plenty at stake. I’ve done lots of reading on Kerry’s positions. I miss the real Democrats of old. I do agree with him on world involvement in fighting terror. But then, Bush would agree on that point as well.
We have a Democratic administration to thank for being soft on these barbarians. We also have the Clinton administration to thank for “Don’t ask, Don’t tell”, and let’s not forget DOMA. What is a gay person to do? Terrorists only understand torture and death in the name of their god. I have to consider all of these realities instead of just voting with my dick.
So far, having a President, such as he is, who means what he says and follows through when it comes to protecting this nation from threats has my vote of confidence. Neither party is going to run a perfect war campaign. I find all of this liberal sympathy for these killers a disgrace. The Ted Kennedys of this world are attempting to weaken our resolve. None of the gay issues matters unless this nation is secure. Who do you think UBL would vote for today, if he could?
Bill Lullo
