Fourplay
Engaging in and transcending the various genres of R&B, pop, rock, blues, classical and jazz, Fourplay has managed to garner fans that span all ethnic, musical and geographical boundaries, earning the group the reputation as “America’s Contemporary Jazz Supergroup.” The group’s members have collaborated with such artists as John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Joni Mitchell, Elton John, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Seal, Babyface and Steely Dan, among others. Fourplay’s eponymous first release, Fourplay, and follow-up Between the Sheets, both received global platinum status and captured the number-one spot on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart, with their debut CD reigning for 33 weeks. The band’s third album, Elixir, received both gold and number-one chart status as well as being named the year’s Best Contemporary Jazz Album in the Jazziz Readers Poll and honored as Album of the Year at the coveted Soul Train Awards ceremony. Continuing their established tradition of delivering critically and consumer acclaimed albums, Fourplay has since released Four, The Best Of, a Christmas edition entitled Snowbound and their Grammy nominated project Yes, Please!. Fourplay’s most recent release is Heartfelt, released last year on RCA Records.

Saxophonist David Sanborn began his musical career as a teen-age sideman, playing on the burgeoning jazz and R&B club circuit in his native St. Louis. A student of music at both Northwestern University and the University of Iowa, Sanborn joined the influential Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1967. He remained with the group four years, performing on the acclaimed In My Own Dream album. Sanborn subsequently worked on stage and in the studio with a variety of established artists including Paul Simon, the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and the Rolling Stones. He spent two years as part of Stevie Wonder’s band (performing on the celebrated Talking Book LP) and played on David Bowie’s innovative 1975 release Young Americans.
