Eve Selis: The Queen of Roadhouse Rock, Eve Selis, debuts songs from her new CD Nothing But the Truth, recorded in Nashville, Tenn., at La Jolla’s Museum of Contemporary Art Sherwood Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. The “lemonade-and-whiskey-voiced” Selis plays with her band and special guests producer Kim Patton-Johnston, Nashville radio personality Devon O’Day, local blues powerhouse Earl Thomas and other local celebrities. Hungry for substance?: 6th @ Penn Theatre continues its extended season of “Year of the San Diego Woman in Theatre” with Jean Genet’s The Maids, a dark psychological study of fantasy role-playing murderous maids, played by Laurie Lehmann-Gray and Dana Hooley, and Anne Tran as the Madame. Take your father to surf day: Celebrate Dad’s day at the Father’s Day Beach Party & Menehune Surf Classic at Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each year, approximately 1,000 people gather for a children’s surf competition (including father-son tandem wave riding), a full lineup of local bands, vendor booths and food. Sign of the times: Paul Alexander Juutilainen’s Emmy award-winning documentary Herbert’s Hippopotamus: Marcuse in Paradise examines the life of philosopher and political activist Herbert Marcuse, visionary force for the youth and anti-war movements worldwide in the ’60s and ’70s. Following the 7:00 p.m. screening, the filmmaker will lead a discussion about the political turmoil and media campaign generated by Marcuse’s presence in San Diego. Monstropoly: A searing critique of the prison industrial complex in two acts, The Raggedy Dances and Monstropoly, concludes Eveoke’s 2003-04 season. Raggedy Ann and Andy romp the board stage alone in a duet that reflects the uses of force; then, the characters journey over a Monopoly game board where Park Place has been replaced by Nature and the Railroads have become the Media.
