If you are interested in having a guest from Pride At Work speak about the organization to your union, contact them via the prideatwork.org website.

The Center and the Gay Men’s Health Program host ‘Poz 5-Minute Man’
The Center’s Positive Action Program and the Gay Men’s Health Program of Family Health Centers of San Diego will host the “Poz 5-Minute Man” event on Saturday, June 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Hillcrest’s Uptown Shopping District.
The “Poz 5-Minute Man” event is a new and interactive chance for HIV-positive gay and bisexual men to connect with each other in a casual, pressure-free and fun environment. While the Gay Men’s Health Program’s “5-Minute Man” program has been hugely popular, this is the first time the event is being offered specifically for HIV-positive men. There is no cost to participate in this event.
After arrivals and initial mingling, participants are seated. They have five minutes to chat with and get to know the person next to them. Every five minutes, the men shift places to meet the next guy. This goes on until everyone has had a chance to meet everyone else. The participants anonymously indicate people they would like to meet and the staff helps facilitate future contact. For more information, call (619) 692-2077 ext. 133.
San Diego PFLAG group meeting
On Monday, June 28, the San Diego chapter of PFLAG will get ready for Pride with a viewing of the movie Queer Son by Vickie Seitchik. The film is a compelling portrait of parents coping with their children’s lesbian or gay sexual orientation. The parents and children interviewed each come from different social and ethnic backgrounds.
For the parents of lesbian and gay children, Seitchik’s support and acceptance of her own “queer son” provide a deeply personal and moving backdrop to this important documentary. She invites viewers into the homes and lives of families of the GLBT community and reveals the personal and emotional journeys taken by parents towards unconditional love and acceptance.
The meeting will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church located at 4190 Front St. in Hillcrest. For more information, call the PFLAG Help Line at (619) 579-7640.
Flame job fair
The Flame, the soon to be reopened club on Park Boulevard, is holding a job fair on Wednesday, June 30, for anyone interested in working at The Flame. They will be hiring managers, bartenders, bar backs, security guards, dancers and DJs. Applicants should come to Numbers, located at 3811 Park Blvd. on that day between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. to fill out an application and get an interview. The Flame is looking to employ motivated and responsible individuals who want to work in a fast paced environment. All are welcome. Call (619) 294-7583 for more information.
Volunteer for Pride
More than 200 volunteer shifts have been filled already for the upcoming celebration of San Diego LGBT Pride. An ongoing series of signup sessions will continue, however, through July 24 in order to fill a total of 1,000 shifts needed for the milestone event.
Pre-registered volunteers who work a five-hour shift gain free admission to the festival on both days, July 31 and Aug. 1, and receive a meal ticket, souvenir T-shirt and invitation to Pride’s volunteer appreciation party, scheduled for Aug. 22 at the festival site.
Volunteer support is needed in the areas of safety, medical, beer garden, ticket sales, exhibitor relations and more. There will be fewer opportunities this year for walk-up volunteers.
Signup meetings are being held regularly at The Center’s auditorium. For a detailed list of dates and times, call Pride at (619) 297-7683.
Additionally, Pride is still accepting submissions for its juried “Art of Pride” exhibit at the festival, which showcases works in various media by local artists. Proceeds from sales will go directly to the artists. The entry deadline is July 1. Artists must email four photographs of their work in three-inch jpeg files to director@sdpride.org. They are also required to donate one of their pieces for a silent auction to be held during the festival.

Complementary services can include massage, chiropractic care, Reiki and acupuncture. A new, enriched lineup of live music and dance coordinated by Bienestar Human Services and Ebony Pride will be presented at this year’s 30th annual San Diego LGBT Pride festival on July 31 and Aug. 1 at Marston Point in Balboa Park.
According to Carolina Ramos, regional director for Bienestar, the Rhythm of the Nations dance tent will take on a new Caribbean flavor while offering visitors a fresh slate of Latin, hip-hop, salsa, corridas and merengue entertainment.
The attraction will operate during regular festival hours, from 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. on July 31 and from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Aug. 1. For more information about the 30th anniversary of San Diego LGBT Pride, call (619) 297-7683.
