Once a month they will feature a different inspiring woman and get to know her. This month’s special guest is Danielle Lo Presti, musician and founder of Say It Records. Complimentary coffee is provided by Marie from the woman-owned coffee shop Sip This. Any donations will benefit the Women’s Resource Center. Faderman has long been an advocate for preserving GLBT history and has authored several works, including some that document her own life. Faderman’s works include Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers; To Believe in Women: What Lesbians Have Done for America – A History; and Naked in the Promised Land: A Memoir, which received the 2004 Lambda Literary Award for best LGBT Memoir/Autobiography.
The workshops will take place on Saturday, July 17, and Saturday, July 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Center. Interested participants should gather any pictures, videos, journals, music, poetry or other artifacts significant to themselves and/or their relationship. Fees for the workshops are $80 for couples and $60 for individuals. The workshops will feature state-of-the-art technology and participants will leave with their own DVD of their story. Checks should be made payable to Heads on Fire, and all proceeds will go toward establishing a digital storytelling workshop series for youth at The Center’s Hillcrest Youth Center.

amfAR to lead fund-raising trek in China
The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) will lead a group of 30 to 70 participants on a fund-raising hiking expedition along the Great Wall of China Oct. 24-31. In addition to facing a rigorous physical challenge while visiting one of the world’s most impressive historical sites, participants in Trek Asia for amfAR will become personally invested in raising money for amfAR’s lifesaving programs and will learn first hand about the mounting AIDS crisis in Asia.
Trek Asia for amfAR participants will each be responsible for raising at least $10,000 for amfAR in order to join the expedition. They will gather in Beijing to begin the eight-day trek, which will take hikers over breathtaking terrain along rarely visited parts of the Great Wall. Funds raised through Trek Asia for amfAR will support all of amfAR’s programs, including TREAT Asia, an initiative aimed at building capacity for the safe and effective delivery of HIV/AIDS treatments as they become more widely available across the continent.
Space on Trek Asia for amfAR is limited. For more information, call Laura Haverland at (212) 806-1753.
